New BMW Sportscar
I have just seen an interesting news item.
Williams F1 team in an attempt to get around winter testing rules in F1 are threatening to attatch an F1 engine to the back of a sportscar and run in during next winter. Needless to say McLaren have raised an objection to this. I can just see Daytona in a few years time Ferrari / McLaren - Mercedes / Williams - BMW / Jag - Ford / Minardi - Perkins. TGF and Barra in the same team. Simon |

I heard about this. I am surprised it hasn't been attempted before. I reckon that BMW will use the LMP V12 as the car like Toyota have done with the GT1 for their F1 engine.

What can the FIA do to keep a team from doing engine bed testing in the belly of a sportscar? If the sportscar races under the rules and the F1 team do not break the rules concerning the amount of F1 testing time, who can say anything? This is just an extension of dyno testing an engine. Obviously Toyota used their GT car to test their new F1 project and there has been no complaints about that.
