http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/97739 confirms what RCE has been saying for a while. Audi is using the flywheel accumulator which was developed by Williams Hybrid Power and Porsche for the 911 GT3-R Hybrid.

BTW the full press release is available at http://www.fourtitude.com/news/publi...cle_7527.shtml

After all, the release says that both cars share tubs and most of the other parts.
According to Audi Sport the R18 ultra and R18 e-tron quattro are "absolutely identical with the exception of the hybrid system.”

I would not look too hard on the livery pictures to determine the aero updates. Audi is obviously trying to keep these private for now.

Looking at the entries, looks like the 1st full-season car will be the E-tron Quattro, but the other will be the regular Ultra. Is the Ultra the regular R18 TDI with new bodywork?

Non-permanent all-wheel drive is still all-wheel drive. At some point the Audi-bashing gets a bit silly.

Looking at the picture on Autosport.com I doubte the drivers will see too much in those mirrors based on their height and the height of the windscreen.

Could there be an 'F'duct using that central rear wing mount?

Especially because this restriction is the direct consequence of the LMP1 technical rule book.

According the press release Audi will use the term "e-tron quattro" for road cars in which the front axle is driven by a conventional engine and the rear axle by electric motors. Peugeot is using the marketing term "Hybrid4" for that type of solution.

BTW I just noticed that (because of the 6% restrictor reduction) Audi has downgrade the "official" power output of the V6 TDI from 540 hp to 510 hp.

No. That is forbidden in the LMP rules.

No, that picture shows the front fender louvers from last year. The rules mandate real holes in the front and rear fender.

HAH! "Official" power of 510hp? Do any of you agree? I think 550hp is closer to what's being made. How about torque?

Too right! #1 looks like someone spilled a can of white paint and rulers all over it!

Very excited about their driver lineups though, great to see Rocky back for Le Mans and Marco having a go as well. And with Loic now joining the team, Audi has hired all 3 of the big time European factory drivers from Super GT (Andre, Ben, Loic)...a proud day for SGT as well!

The first real life picture on http://www.facebook.com/FourtitudeAu...02310433209748. The black in the livery nicely hides the shape of the fender holes
More pictures on http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...1949771&type=3.

Note the official "P1 HY" logo on the car. I never saw that on the Toyota TS030.

Too me, it looks like they have been inspired by the 80's-90's Audi Sport Look:

So perhaps the #2, which traditionally is more or less yellow, will have a livery with inspiration by this?:

Of course the whole point is to refer to the quattro history. Well done by the marketing people.

Perhaps the HY has to be on the car? KERS has the little sticker for safety reasons, maybe this or to show TV?

The Hope Racing Oreca carried a HY designation inside it's numberplate last year as well...

According http://www.autohebdo.fr/endurance/we...-heures-de-spa Audi will enter 4 cars in Spa as rehearsal for Le Mans. Rocky will not be present because of a date clash with DTM. So two new boys (Bonanomi and Jarvis) are on their own.

Certainly looks like an official sticker, I'm sure we'll see one on the Toyota as well once we see it with the final set of stickers.

The Audi press article stressed that they reduced the base weight of the car compared to last year. One example is the carbon fibre gearbox housing. According to http://www.lemans.org/en/news/audi-t...rted_6340.html they were able to reduce the weight 100 pounds.

The same reference has a quote from Kristensen:
Quote:
This new car is great right away. The feeling we have at the wheel is great with increased traction generated out of corners. After being the first manufacturer to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a diesel engine, Audi now has one goal, to be the first winners with a hybrid.

Should be interesting to see how the Audi and Toyota systems stack up against each other, here's to hoping Toyota drive the rear wheels just for arguments sake!

A video of the Audi R18 e-tron quattro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfYDwhDTLes I think that Audi already released pictures of this Paul Ricard last year. That test supposedly toke place on November 17th, 2011. See http://www.mulsannescorner.com/newsnov11.html

I have the impression that the engine noise has changed at bit.
