Grand Prix de Pau Historique May 11/12th
As if May wasn't busy enough, have volunteered my services to help a fellow tenther and 'Famous International Racing Driver' take and run some open wheelers at Pau.
It would appear that Peter Auto websites are not working at the moment, so bit short of info. However, from stories told by others who have made the trip am expecting loads of atmosphere, perhaps some chaos and definitely lack of facilities. Sounds like fun. Anyone else venturing forth? |

Only marshalling the moderne & not arriving in Pau till Monday after the historics. It is a tight little circuit with it's own charming way of doing things.
Here's your timetable. http://www.asac-bascobearnais.asso.f...013_v2_jdv.pdf |

Thanks, Alasdair, that was useful. The website sprung into life later so have now worked out where circuit is and sorted accommodation!
Looking forward to it! |

I'll be there Mike, with 2 other Brits in the Mini race, although the grid is tiny this year, after 2 startline shunts last year put the fear through the drivers, which is a real shame, as I'm told 26 Mini's into the first corner last year was quite a sight!
You need to arrive in Pau town centre Thursday am, and they escort you down to the paddock next to the Gare. Type in Rue du Maquis du Béarn, and pull up in the car park adjacent. Beware the overhanging trees on the way down! It was actually one of the highlights, as the bloke who drives the 'escort car', some Citroen family shopping car, wears full nomex, puts his flashing orange lights on, and hares off into the distance, no doubt left foot braking into the turns, leaving you so far behind that you have no idea where to go! Classic stuff. The one paddock toilet is less classic, but maybe they've looked into that. As it were... |

Great pics Grant, but at the moment if you tried to take any at Pau all you would see is rain and murk!
The weather slowly deteriorated all the way from Caen to Pau. By the time got close it was persisting it down and bleeding cold to boot. "Things can only get better" by D:Ream is on my playlist, funnily enough....... Some uncouth Brit in a RangeRover with shuttle on back overtook us this morning blasting his car horn. Not sure, but might be that Horsman bloke. Gave up on trying to get to paddock as would have been soaked getting from there to hotel, so Delta Racing truck is parked right outside the window, and we are snug. Just had 'all you can eat' Asian buffet 5 minutes walk away. We did, and so are set up for the weekend. All Pau needs now is a chippy and an Indian and will be happy. Hopefully weather WILL improve, you lot back in UK can have what S of France has endured today. Will be getting unloaded first thing after getting to 'circuit', then Iain can start preparing his car........ |

It rained once or twice when we were down there 2 years ago.
Been wet on and off here today. Right now the strong cold winds of Wednesday have returned. North Westerlies I think (I'm not going out to check!) so the chances of your stuff fighting its way up here would seem remote. he planes leaving EMA are hitting cruising height before they have cleared the runway .... well, okay, I am exaggerating - but only slightly. You might want to remind Iain that he prepped his car last time and that was not entirely a positive result over the weekend so it might be worth leaving it, other than a little polish perhaps. I think it gets upset if given too much attention. Whichever way it goes have fun chaps. |

We've had the once- all yesterday! The Delta team cold has still got its grip on the boss but hopefully two cups of strong tea he has just consumed will have a positive effect. Just off to find the circuit. Hopefully more later!

Echo Mikes comments, circuit a lot hillier than had been apparent on the YouTube clips I'd found! I've done two laps, one on foot with the chaps, and another on Iain's bike.. Reckon I was going as fast on the downhill section as I fancy to be honest, but then again the bike does have disc brakes! |

If anyone wants to keep up with what's going on at Pau, I can thoroughly recommend the live timing
http://lt1.alkamelsystems.com/index....7-5b346be7a9a7 It shows lap times, sector times and a track map showing the position of each car on the circuit. Iain was 7th overall in Junior qualifying with James (HRSTR5) 11th overall and first in class. It's rather poignant that the Mini field, about to go out for qualifying as I type this, is now down to 8... |

Technophobia strikes
Can anyone tell me why the picture i just posted turned up on it's side???!
Is it anything to do with Iain's spelling and grammar? To try to make up for that operator error, you should find a nice one of Iain the right way up here, the first one, blue and yellow car 64: http://www.grandprixdepauhistorique....trophee-junior |

There are lots of stories that would like to tell about the trip, but finding time will be difficult during next few days with other racing happening!
However, this is important. As he mentioned earlier in this thread, Christian Deveraux was due to race in the French Mini races at Pau, before being so tragically taken from us the weekend before. In tribute the Minis at the event carried Christian's #67 on the roof and his name on the side, and a one minute silence was observed during the podium ceremony for the first race. |
