That just makes the project even more questionable. If you were going to use any ICE for this type of competition, I'm not sure the rotary is most people's first choice.

McLaren? Ford? Honda? Audi? New privateer team with an existing car (would love to see a better-supported Ferrari programme stateside)? |

HPD has been working on the NSX GTE since 2012.
The production 2016 NSX will be shown at Detroit in January 2015 and you can order it in March 2015 with delivery starting Summer 2015. The original plan was to race it before it goes on sale. The only problem is they what to race it Hybrid. But in 2013 they switched the power-train layout from Transverse to longitudinal and from a old production 60 degree SOHC V6tt to a street legal racing engine(very compact with no external belt to run auxiliaries)90 degree DOHC V6. So they will run it without hybrid or will get a waiver. |

I think that would be a good start. Although I would be more than happy to see a manufacturer step up out of the left-field.
The Lexus GTE exist, albeit in an older form. The Mclaren GTE was on the cards. Honda want to race the NSX at Le Mans. I really can't tell which one is closest. They all have cars in the wings. |

But seriously, Ford doesn't care about GT or any high level racing unless it promoting their latest corporate gimmick or NASCAR. |

Yup
IIRC Ford racing only put out money to partially help Robertson racing switch to michelins. The rest was all Robertson racing and matech.At least those where the most memorable. |
