F360 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Do any set of proposed rules cater for someone to add turbochargers (as an off the top of the head example !) to say, a 430 to allow one to run in GT1 ?

Can't seem to find definitive regs for 2009 and on that clarifies that....

Interesting question but I took the 'new' GT1 as to cater for normally aspirated cars with engines bigger than 5.5 litres? Have I missed something out?

On the subject of Fiat's sportscar activities. I thought that there would be either a new Ferrari or Maserati based GT1 contender with the 430 being replaced by the Alfa 8C as a GT2 esque level car?

I don't see tham bothering with LMP stuff really.

Those wont be out untill Dec of 2008.

Look at teh ACO rules for for 2008 regs: http://www.lemans.org/sport/sport/re...4hauto_gb.html

Art. 5.5 GT1 at this time.

5.4 - Normally aspirated engines :
5.4.1 - Displacement : 8 000 cc maximum.

5.5 - Turbocharged / Supercharged engines :
5.5.1 - Displacement : 4 000 cc maximum.

However, just taking a car designed under the GT2 regs, putting a turbo on and racing in GT1 would not work. That particular car needs to be built that way with 50 or more units built with that turbo for commercial sale. IIRC


2008 & 2009 regs are very close, with the big changes in 2010. Full details still being worked out.

Remember last Dec the World Motorsports Counsel and the Manufactures in GT racing rejected SRO's ideas.

Just the info I was looking for.

I guess my question stemmed from looking at how Aston Martin now have DB9 variants in GT1, GT2 and GT3.
So, in THEORY (I stress THEORY !), it could be done, albeit with some serious development...
Maserati didn't seem to have too much trouble shifting 40-odd road going examples of the MC12, and I guess there are likely to be 50 plus eager Ferrari collectors who'd jump at the chance of a "Super-430".

I still can't see a factory blessed 599 happening although the Alfa 8C might, as previously mentioned - remember that the 8C is built at Maserati.

From a personal point of view, I'd love to see a proper LMP1 Ferrari - I just don't think thats ever gonna happen either..

But the big difference is in the air restrictors. A turbo engine is not competetive against NA engines under FIA rules. When FIA took over after BPR in 97 they decreased the air restrictors for turbo cars both in GT1 and GT2, Porsche estimated they lost about 50hp by that. At LeMans however ACO did not follow FIA so they could run the same old bigger restrictors, and they won. This still 10 years later are embedded in the FIA rules and a Turbo car will still be about 50hp down (at least) on the NA cars.

It was stated a while ago Ferrari would concentrate on F1.

Both brands can accomodate smaller GT2 type projects, but if ever the Fiat Group went for an overall Le Mans win, I'm certain it would be with the Maserati brand.
