Steven Richards replaces Glenn Seton?

The latest E-News reports that Steven Richards will replace Glenn Seton in the Ford Escort?

Anyone know why?

Does this mean Seto's entering his Capri in the races? It really doesn't mention "why" in the article, frustrating for us Seton fans?

Seton did a stellar job in the little Ford.

Glenn was just asked to drive the car at Clipsal for the Stillwell's who own the car, now they have asked someone else. There probably isnt a reason for it unless Glenn is busy. The Capri is Historic Group Nc log booked, Biante series is Group 3D Sports Sedans from memory. So no the Capri wouldnt be running.

Escort was once the most popular car on the planet... before Ford did the unthinkable and dropped a great nameplate.

Do you think Toyota will ever replace the name "Corolla" with something new? I thought not!!!

Toyota HAS replaced, or at least partially replaced the Corolla name plate. The new model is known internationally as the Toyota Auris in several markets. Toyota Australia had to almost beg to keep the Corolla badge here, pointing to how the Nissan Tiida guttered the reputation the Pulsar had built up.

True dat! But Corolla is still the most popular nameplate in the bigger markets (happy to be corrected).

Anyway, Escorts were a lot of fun when they ruled the planet. It always amazes me that manufacturers haven't revisited RWD as a means to put the fun back into small cars. Notwithstanding, cost, space efficiency and fuel economy penalties.

Well, it's never worried BMW.

It used to be Group N, but they relaxed the rules to allow things like advertising to be displayed (not allowed under Group N rules) and some other mechanical freedoms. With the relaxed rules they no longer could be under Nc/Nb regs so are now logbooked as Sports Sedans. I believe that's also behind the name change to the Biante "Touring Car Masters" - they aren't allowed to call the cars Historics anymore.

Thjanks for that - after seeing the photo of Seton's Escort I had to wonder as I never recall seeing an Escort with the moulded flairs it has (apart from on a sports sedan that is).

Made me wonder how far from Historic specs/regs they had actually moved and, it appears, quite a long way (I personally believe App J cars should be able to carry current advertising given the cost of maintaining these cars these days).

You are correct, 3D is Sports Sedans, the Biante TCM cars have Sports Sedan logbooks.

I understand Peter Nightingale is the owner of one, maybe two, Escorts ex - Stillwell - can you expand on the above Peter?

Going back to the Fahey FVA , the Moffat BDA, Mike Stillwell in the ATCC, Tubby Ritter, Bill Fanning, John Bassett (BDG ?), Garry Rogers, Phil Ward - I've never really understood the difference.

As for the Stillwell car in the Biante Series (www.touringcarmasters.com.au) - sure adds a new dimension to the racing so, yes!!

Richo or Seto - Glen started in one, Richo built one & competed in a Targa? Both very well qualified.

They were testing the Capri at Eastern Creek on Saturday. Didn't see Glenn around though.

Obviously, they want to test the strength of the front fenders against a Camaro or Mustang B-Pillar ...
