V8 Supercar Sports Sedan?
A new rumour has surfaces that one V8 supercar is running a car as a sports sedan. This allows them to test it, as a sports sedan and get round the AVESCO testing restrictions.
Any one heard anything to prove or disprove the rumour? |

There is nothing stopping anyone from doing it. If I had a V8 Supercar, but I wasn't registered with Avesco, I could run my V8 Supercar all day every day, anywhere, and Tony C couldn't do a thing about it. Shoot, if I had access to a private test facility owned by my team, I could run there too!
The thing is that it would be ratehr pointless, as you have to be registered with Avesco to get tyres, and even then, you only get so many. Once you've worn them out, you simply can't go back to Avesco and ask for more... Also I see Max Dumseny was testing that Garry Rodgers Ute with V8 mechanicals. Nothing wrong with that. You could stick the same mechanicals in a Monaro, but then that would become a Nations Cup car, wouldn't it?... |

The last time I looked at the rules for sports sedans (a couple of years ago) a V8 supercar could not run as a sports sedan because the rear wing on a supercar didn't meet the regs of a sports sedan.

V8's can now run in Sports Sedan racing, Bomn, check this weeks edition of Motorsport News, there is an ad somewhere in the first few pages explaining the legal cars...the list includes V8's AND Super Tourers, of course with minor mods to meet the regs...

Sorry I don't buy Motorsport News. Have Cams made the V8's wings narrower or the sports sedans wings wider.

Nono, they still can't run as Sports Sedans with that rear wing. BUT, with the National Sports Sedan Championship this season, you can run Super Tourers, Porsche Cup, Marque Sports, Trans Ams, basically anything you like, in an invitational class. They are basically trying to boost their grids, which is fair enough.

But back then there was a split with half the sports sedans in one corner, and the rest in another. They should be able to pick up a few TransAms, possibly a couple from NZ, and some Marque Sports cars wishing to get on bigger programs. Things like those Pythons go fairly well...
And besides, there are a lot of small variations to the Sports Sedans rules in the CAMS manual this year, things like doors etc have been changed. |

 The main problem of late is that a lot of the State Championship runners aren't stepping up to back the National Series when they visit their State, like they did in the past... |

Might be stickin the XU1 triples, four speed and slippery diff in the HQ and go Sports Sedanin again!
I did that at the 2nd last Amaroo and didn't do to bad! |

at least u guys get more than 10 cars on a grid, over here in nz 10 cars is supposed to be considertied big.
