GROUPA should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Mercedes Benz @ Bathurst

Mercedes Benz Australia have booked Bathurst for 3 days to launcg the CLK 63 Black edition. Part of the release they will be bringing out a current spec C Class DTM race car with on or the euro drivers to attempt to break the outright lap record.

Does the C Class have a chance to break Murphy's record ?

On paper the DTM car seems to have it all over the V8 Supercar, it would be lightning quick across the mountain IMO just like the 2 litres were.

You bet. Assuming their drivers come to terms with the track. The car certainly will be quicker than a V8 supercar.

EGG has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
If this is a good indication, then 17-20 March. I'll be interested to see how it pans out.

Greg Murphy doesn't hold the outright lap record.

The outright lap record can only be set during a race, hence why any time the Mercedes does will be unofficial.

Mercedes is the main sponsor of the FOSC weekend. The reason that the cost has become reasonable for us to compete at Mount Panorama is the fact that Merc has shared the track hire costs.

Fairly typical of the usual Merc con. Turn up and put on a show when there is no competition.
If they had been serious about trying to prove themselves in the same league as BMW they would have run something in the 12hr.

That's a bit mean...

however the car only has 400 hp and may not make it in a 2:06.8, on a slippery dusty track.

Fortunately, this will start an enthralling German V Aussie war, and Holden can bring up a VE bodied supercharged 7L sports sedan body on super-soft Bridgestones to get the title back.. sub 2:00 lap perhaps! Great stuff, and they will be able to do this without offending people who are running Ferraris, Porsches and Moslers built to actual regulations!

it has more like 500 hp. as a rule of thumb you can say they achieve the same lap times as a formula 3 car, i have no clue though if they let f3 cars on the bathurst track.

If Lewis Hamilton breaks his leg driving a non-CAMS certified Sports Sedan style car, that is not supposed to lap around Mt. Panorama, at warp speed, then the spectacle could back fire media-wise for Mercedes?

The stiffly-sprung car will be very slow through the dipper, losing at least a second there.....

I will probably just be another dud publicity stunt, just like the Champ Car that was going to break the record & then only coasted around the track.

It amazes me how many people think that holden are the be all end all.
Our series is not the quickest in the world. deal with it..
On a level playing field as last years 12hr was they didnt finish , with both Fords 10laps behind the BMW 335 and 5 laps behind the BMW 130. Sorry guys, in the real world they are not competitive..
Yet the Aust V8TC series is very competitive and entertaining with highly skilled teams, excellent presentation and event management providing many benifits to Austrailan motorsport ,our economy, our image on the world stage ,but we are the not the quickest.
DTM are pretty much the quickest touring car series in the world. Quicker than Japan's GT500 class I have been lead to believe. They are unbelievable under brakes as well as lightning corner speeds. They will smash the time if they dont smash!
We can only hope they are trialing the circuit to run a DTM round in Australia which would be something not to miss.
Fingers crossed.
Regarding someones quote on the Merc verses BMW in the 12hr, I sure I read an anouncement Merc is running this year. Can anyone confirm?
Cheers

But hang on, it isn't really about Holden vs Mercedes is it? It is about the speed of a V8Supercar vs the speed of a DTM car. Whether it is Holden or Ford, Mercedes or Audi doesn't really matter, and it certainly has nothing to do with any production car race results. It is about the V8Supercar regulations as apposed to the DTM regs.

Anyway, the corner speed of the DTM cars are staggering, so commonsense says they will be quicker. And on top of that, I highly doubt that Mercedes would bring a car over here under the premise that they 'hope it will be quicker'. They would only go to the expense if they know it will be quicker...........
