Forums are not really representative, though, as the only people that will post there are Maelochs afficionados.

Even, though, there is usually quite a bit of talk going on over at GT-eins about VLN and GT-Masters races...

Didn't know they did that. Do they have the teams run the cars themselves or are they run by a third party?

SRO contracted test driver.... in the beginning it was Christophe Bouchut, H-H Frentzen also did it for a bit.

IMSA plans to organize a mid-season test session at Virginia:
http://www.imsaracing.net/2012/alms/...MO%2012-03.pdf

The June 14th date is of course downright horrible for teams/drivers attending Le Mans, but it's not like this optional test is all-important or anything

Thank you for the heads up. I just confirmed with VIR that spectators can attend the event for a fee, but will not be allowed in the North Paddock (where the teams and transporters will be).

I'm sure they will be happy enough heading out for qualifying that day at La Sarthe.

Given the proximity of Riley to VIR, I would say that is a fair assessment.

Mmmhmm, teams with Le Mans entries get bonus track time, so the series is giving track time to the teams who have chosen to focus on the American product. Critically important as VIR is a new circuit on the schedule.

It is tantalizing to think it is perfect timing for a Viper public-track-debut.

Also, being a new track for the series, it givesthe VIR crew some lead time in case the ALMS officials make any recommendations on minor changes that they would like made for the race in September.

It would be kind of nice if they come to the conclusion that the original, 3.27-mile layout actually works better for the ALMS than the 4.1-mile Grand East Circuit, but I'm not going to expect anything that significant.

That would be great to see the Viper, if they do make the unveiling at VIR.

If you manage to pretend that the fin isn't there, the car actually looks fairly pretty in black and without sponsor logos.

Shame Autocon won't be there to act as a benchmark - the coughing Lola AER would surely challenge Libra for bottom of the field prototype honours.

Wow, seems as I haven't paid attention at all, didn't realize the Dempsey car was a coupe... anything that makes P2 look less sterile as a whole is positive in my book!

Something tells me Tom Kimber-Smith is going to get announced as a driver somewhere in the ALMS tomorrow.

Putting two and two together with his tweets and a MWM announcement.

Apparently he's got some clause in his insurance contract that says he's only allowed to race hard-tops. Because we all know how often open car drivers get hit in the face by things......

Will add some nice variety though.

Anyone know how quickly the race tends to be online after the event? Am not going to be around for the race as I'll be flying so hoping I can catch it on Monday when I get back jetlagged.

Is that why he hasn't even attempted to drive their LMPC car?

The race should be available on Monday or Tuesday. Also might be a two parter because of the 6h length

“After four days of testing covering 2,000 miles of trouble-free running following a joint development program with Roush Yates, I am happy to be going racing,” said Ian Dawson, the team owner and engineer. “We at long last can see that we can enter the balance of the 2012 American Le Mans Series season with a credible package to build on and with a new engine that we believe will be a strong contender from the outset.

2000 miles of trouble free running ..... Oh goody , finally a reliable P2 car from Libra !!!

Im gonta be nice now , cuz we were corrected a few weeks ago from someone within the project who accused us of being doomsayers with respect to Libra , so I cant wait to see this happening . And I sincerly hope to see them do well .

was that a reference to me???.....if so I would like to point out that I am not involved within the Libra project in any way, yes I occasionally exchange e-mails with Ian and I consulted in the V10 diesel engine days but thats it......anyway, no beef from my side!......personally I too dont get my hopes up every time a Libra announcement is made because there have been so many!!!.......anyway this latest announcememt does look to have a little bit more weight behind it, I wonder if the scrutineers will take a dim view of the lack of holes above the wheels???......certainly the fin is a step in the right direction.......I guess once they get listed on the Leguna Seca entry list it will take another step closer.
