V8 Point scores incorrect??
Interest emails I have just received suggest that the point score allocations for both Sandown and Bathurst - as done by AVESCO - are incorrect. A quick check of the AVESCO V8 Supercars web site shows this to be the case.
Rule D 14.4.3 in the AVESCO Operations Manual lists the points to be allocated at each round - page D 31 and last updated August 8th 2003. In this table, both Sandown and Bathurst are listed from 1st to 32nd as follows: 192-188-184-180-176-172*......76-72-68 (ie 32nd place receives 68 points. The normal point allocation for 192 opint rounds (Eastern Creek, Phillip Island, Winton, QLD, Oran Park and final Eastern Creek) are as follows: 192-186-180-174-168-162-.....18-12-6 (ie 6 points for 32nd place). What has been awarded for both Sandown and Bathurst is the 'normal' point spread (ie the one awarding 6 points for 32nd) and not the Sandown/Bathurst special giving 68 points for 32nd. Whilst this won't alter the top end much, this will put Ambrose on 18 points more than currently shown.....and, no doubt, will affect greatly anyone finishing lower than about 10th position in any of these races. When I can recalculate the whole table, will post a link to it.... |

My understanding is that a couple of people have already emailed AVESCO - just waiting on responses from them to see what excuse errrr reason they have for either having it wrong r having the points in the Ops Manual incorrect...

OK for those wondering - I have posted the adjusted championship scores when the Ops Manual points tally have been substituted for Sandown and Bathurst and also ordered the output in Adjusted Corrected positions- ie - with the lowest scoring round removed.
PDF (approx 20k) located at: http://www.racetime.com.au/racenews/...8%20points.pdf It has been run up quick - don't believe there are any errors - but let me know if there are. |

the whole pointscoring system this year is just ridiculous anyway. Ambrose has been such a class act, its hard to see how he could be so close to the field. Considering Murph had his first win of the year at Bathurst and is just 70 odd points behind. No disrespect to any driver, but the disparity between points for winning and just "finishing" is obvious to everyone

GTRMagic and Racetime,
You guys need to do timing, scoring, officialdom, pitlane speed limit watchers, ugly grid girl patrol and on-track commentary ... All of the above were below standard at Bathurst |

LOL - don;t know whether that is a good thing or not really! I have a good relationship with MSN (and others) but, to be honest - this was passed to me by email - all I did for MSN was provide them corrected point scores..

IF you mean Auto Fictin - I never called them - despite change in management/editorial there I have tried to talk to them in the past and their attitude has always been 'We know best, don't valls us, we won;t call you'
MSN, however, have always been straight up (I have known Phil Branigan for too many years - sorry if you;'re reading this Phil ) -if I talk to him, he checks it out and either uses it if usefuly or doesn't if it isn't. No BS from him - in a word - honest... |

Ah the other mob got some more stuff not exactly right too, reasons for cars crashing into walls suggested to be driver error, whereas in MSN they actually seemed to take the time to get the real story....
It seems the pics of the grid girls are centrefolds now in AA, looks like the Picture influence in the same building is really paying off |

I haven't even opened AA yet - i realised this morning when I went to buy it what it reminded me of - a 12 inch vinyl record cover!
BTW - at least they have the price on it this week... |

They probably forgot to cross that section out... :rolleyes I can't believe how amatuerish the operations manual is. I've only done on legal unit at uni and I could do better than that!
