scorch should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
What you have to remember is that webbers accident was NOT red flagged.
The safety car was called out, (as pointed out prevously) you can see the yellows and the SC board in the background, even alonso has said he saw them.
The Red was called out for Alsonso's incident.

As for the tyres it it looked like some netting ot something loose was put over the tyres. BUT the tyres were not bolted together as are required at other circuits. I see it's the old FIA with one rules for some circuits and some for others...

Another point to note with tyre walls is that if they are bolted together there is less chance of a car submarining and sustaining much greater damage. yes the tyres absorbed energy when they flew off however they will still do this when linked and will aslo dissipate that energy through the rest of the wall without the risk of tyhem flying off everywhere.

On-track waving of yellow flags is not something that is done at circuits in the UK, but is in France and at many other countries, so I can only imagine it's a country specific thing?

Having waived yellow flags on-track at Le Mans and at the Nürburgring, it's something that I'm not completely happy doing.

I can see the obvious advantages of it, but personally I felt that I was too much of a target, and that if another incident occoured I would be a bit of a sitting duck!

Just my opinion.

Scott.

Piglet, the tire wall really did it's job best by exploding like it did. If they'd wrapped a conveyor belt around it, Alonso would have gotten flung much harder...

Instead... Well, every one of those flying tires was propelled by energy it absorbed from the impact. It made that crash _much_ softer than it otherwise would have been.
A tyre wall which 'explodes' on impact is NOT doing its job properly; the function of a tyre wall is to absorb the kinetic energy of a crashing vehicle to bring it to a safer stop, with lower rates of deceleration, than would be the case with a solid wall.

Tyres which break loose are just transferring kinetic energy from one mass (the vehicle) to another (the tyres).

Just stop & think for a moment. What is more dangerous to marshals, spectators & other drivers - a single car moving, albeit out of control, on a reasonably predictable path or dozens of tyres flying around unpredicatly?

Wasn't sure about the tyre banding. Thought it was proper belting (other parts of the track certainly were) and if the 'exploding' tyre wall was despite all of that, then I figured it had done its job well and the dissipation of the tyres was the final part of that. If as stated above the banding was just some sort of cover and the tyres were not bolted together, then that is clearly not the case. The tyre wall would have failed to absorb the energy properly as well as creating extra danger on the track, and as a result of debris flying around potentially causing injury to anyone in the vicinity (including the yelow flag man who never stopped waving despite all the stuff flying over his head - well done that man!)

Unfortunately I'd wiped the tape without looking at the barriers, I was more interested in the driving/marshalling standards, so my previous comments were based on an inaccurate assumption.

I still think Alonso should have been disqualified for failing to observe the flags, not given third place on countback.
