don't know about nearest track, but www.marshals.co.uk is the best place to start. Have a look around, on there you will find out where to apply, what we all do and how you can join us.
See you on the bank soon. |

Welcome....
Your nearest tracks coming from Hemsworth are Croft up near Darlington or Cadwell down in sunny Lincolnshire. Cadwell is 1 hr 30 mins away having done a similar journey a couple of weeks ago and Croft is about the same. If you volunteer on www.marshals.org.uk for any event @ Cadwell or pm David Owen on here you will be made more than welcome at Cadwell. Any more info just ask! |

Possibly the best bet is to just turn up and have a go. For e.g. there is a meeting on at Cadwell Park this weekend. If you were to simply turn up at marshals sign-on (tomorrow morning, between 7.45 and 8.15), I'm sure you'd be made welcome, and appreciated. There is a separate thread for this meeting here http://tentenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=115386 Post a message in there, and I'm sure David Owen, the chief marshal will help you out. All you really need is to be able to get into the circuit, which he can arrange, and some basic gear. Take a selection of clotihng, suitable for being outdoors (i.e. include wet weather gear if you have it), and ensure that your clothing covers you completely (i.e. no shorts or t-shirts), and is not made of articifical fabric which might melt in a fire. Good work boots are also recommended if you have them, esp. with re-enforced toe-caps. Avoid colours which will clash with the flags, especially don't wear anything yellow or red, but if you can, avoid blue, green, and white too. Also bring some basic sustainence sandwhiches/snacks/drinks. See you tomorrow |

Probably the best way to start marshalling is to do the Walkabout at Oulton Park. See:

welcome to the orange brethern, dont be afraid to ask any questions as we all have been there, still a trainee myself but I enjoy it. yes the days are long, the rain wet but the team spirit on the bank makes it all worthwhile, good bit of banter but when the everyone grafts together.
so get your backside trackside and enjoy it |

Hi Rob,
We do have the fantastic 750MC meeting at Cadwell this Saturday and Sunday. We have a "taster day" organised for first time marshals on the Saturday but could easily arrange something for the Sunday too if necessary. You are most welcome to join us, if not then at any of our other meetings. Hope to see you soon. |

Wish I'd started when I was much younger. However, I'd probably still be single with no kids!!

Howday Rob, The forum is a great place to be if you can ignore the top layer of grumbling, you will find it very useful. Best way to know if you will like it is to have a go. Try a couple of days and get as stuck in as you want to. Good luck and let us know how you get on Robin. |

Dont restrict your searches for marshalling venues to circuits
in Yorkshire are Harewood and Olivers Mount for Hillclimbs and Elvington and Teeside for Sprints there are also a whole load of Rally clubs that use both single venues and forest stages in yorkshire it would be worth searching out the Gomotorsport.net website for a list of clubs local to you the MSA website is a source of forthcoming events as is racedates |

Hiya Rob,
Welcome to the Orange Army, as everyone has already said the best way to see if you will like Marshalling is to have a taster, (That`s what me and the other half did last year,) and I`ll tell you what.... I`m sure you will come back for more . Hope to see you on the bank someday |
