Here we go again - car makers to launch legal action against the FIA
Autosport are reporting that BMW, Honda and Mercedes areto begin legal action against the FIA over the 2006 engine regs.
The trio will take the FIA to arbitration over 2,4 V8 engine format. Apparently they have not ruled out quitting F1 if the regulations are imposed against their wishes on grounds of safety. Support for this action is also gathering from Toyota, Ferrari and Ford ( ), whilst Reanult is in favour of the new engine format. So there you have it, the political games rumble on. The other legal debacle in F1 'Buttongate' is rumoured to hinge on a single word in the contract, in that Honda intended to supply engines to BAR. Button's lawyers read this as not a binding commitment, so it may well be that this alleged wording was Honda leaving the door a jar for an exit should the new rules not suit. Back to the poker table it is... |

This is "behind the scenes" politicking and power-playing.
In the end, things will be sorted out, as they always are. You may remember Williams and McLaren began this process against the FIA over the 2003 rules, but quietly dropped that. |
