What I'm thinking about: Why are there no Giuseppe Ciprianis and Michele La Rosas from Auto GP who join Indy 500? They are Gentleman driver but especially Cipriani is not that bad. And Coloni who organises Auto GP was in talks for a IndyCar team...
Are there no American Gentleman drivers like Cipriani? Who perhaps raced old F1 cars from the 90s or old IndyCars?
Does a Indy 500 starter need any qualifications which Cipriani not had like F1 superlicence?

Such involvement make no sense in time when there were more than 80 entries, but no, with perhaps not a full grid with 33 people everyone would qualify for the race and guys like Cipriani and Brown would not be that much slower than drivers like Pippa Mann...

Well, I guess Marty Roth would qualify... he was pretty slow though. After the car count got a boost after the merger, he was parked.

No Auto GP drivers, thanks. If you want young European drivers, I'd prefer top Formula Renault 3.5 guys like Kevin Magnussen, Antonio Felix da Costa or Will Stevens. Or even better, I'd take F1 rejects like Heikki Kovalainen, Vitaly Petrov, Luiz Razia or Davide Valsecchi.

Why don't Michael Schumacher have a crack

With all the respect to the legendary race and drivers the 2013 entry list is almost embarrassing, one of the lowest potential in its 100 years old history but this could make a great show. I wish to see Alesi back along with Schumacker, Zanardi and many others.

Well, yes, but the eventual winner is almost certainly on the entry list already.
Of those one-off deals still to be completed, I guess only the possible 2nd ECR entry has got a chance at victory since that team scored the win at the most recent oval race.

So what are we waiting for?

Well, for the cars to return from Brazil, that's what ;-)

Every race since 2001 has had about the same level of talent except for 04.

Plus, 2002 was the best in terms of driver talent, it doesn't get much better than that post-split.
