Lee Janotta should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Lap of the Gods?

Not sure where I should post this... So, does anyone have any suggestions where I could find some digitized onboard laps? Just trying to build on my collection. I've got Montreal, Monaco, the full Nurburgring (AWESOME video of the greatest track), the short Monthlery, Barcelona, Silverstone, Sepang, and a bunch of US courses. Don't have to be tracks still in existance, I'd love to see one of the Osterreichring.

There was a video out by WH Snith's a few years ago called @Lap of the Gods' which was a compilation of some of the best laps filmed by Alain Boisnard, who was commissioned by Elf to make films of the cars they sponsored in the late 70s and early 80s. He used proper cine-film, rather than beaming a signal up to a receiver and many of the drivers gave it their all for the camera.

This video features Adelaide (Tambay/Renault); Anderstorp (Andretti/Lotus); Brands Hatch (Mansell/Lotus); Detroit (Piquet/Louts - he crashes! - and Cheever/Renault); Hockenheim (Pironi/Tyrrell); Imola (Warwick/Renault); Kyalami (Prost/Renault - could sit and watch this one all day...); Long Beach (Depailler/Tyrrell); Monaco (Prost/Renault and Depailler/Tyrrell P34); Montreal (Depailler/Tyrrell - pouring with rain but he really guns it!); Monza (Laffitte/Ligier); Osterreichring (Cheever/Renault and Tambay/Renault); Silverstone (Jabouille/Renault); Spa (Tambay/Renault); Watkins Glen (Pironi/Tyrrell); Zandvoort (Prost/Renault) and Zolder (Lauda/Brabham).

Apparently, the video is compiled from Lap of the Gods Parts 1 and 2, which may still be available separately.

Also available on video (from Duke) is Posrche 956 In Car Experience, in which Derek Bell drives around the full Nurburging, Fuji, Le Mans (pre-chicanes), Spa, Brnads, Silverstone and Kyalami. Spectacular stuff.

There are also In Car BTCC videos available, but they tens to just give in car shots from the races, rather than full laps.

Where did you find your onboard laps?

I've seen some of Boisnard's films from that series, marvelous stuff. Sadly, I never thought to record them when they were shown on television. That 956 video sounds fantastic, I'll have to look for it.

I can't seem to find _any_ CART or IMSA laps, which would be nice for the North American circuits. It just isn't the same when some playboy in a Porsche is lapping at a track day, as when you've got a _real_ race driver in a real, preferrably open-top race car.

These are from Farzad's site, which is currently down, but the movies seem to still be available.

Barichelo (Ferarri) I _think_ at Estoril:
http://gertrude2.dyndns.org/~farzad/...bar_rb_lap.asf

Frentzen (Jordan) at Sepang:
http://gertrude2.dyndns.org/~farzad/...pFrentzen.mpeg

Villeneuve (Williams) at Montreal:
http://gertrude2.dyndns.org/~farzad/...9_Lap_JV1.mpeg

Villeneuve in a '97 Williams, no clue where:
http://gertrude2.dyndns.org/~farzad/...for_farzad.mpg

This, I don't remember where I got it. The Master taking the pole in '91 at Monaco :
http://bil.zon.se/filmer/f1/1991/monacolap.mpeg

From the same track and site, someone completely blowing his lap. Brundle?:
http://bil.zon.se/filmer/f1/1989/monacoq1.mpeg

The Lotus 111 Association http://www.one-eleven.fr/default_a.htm
has video of a member doing two laps at the Montelhery short track. Worth watching just for the sound of the F40 he's pursuing.

Another one I don't remember where I found it. Sorry if I'm snubbing anyone. Anyways, it's Irvine in a Jag at Silverstone:

And some bloke in a Motorsport Elise doing a smashing circuit of the Nordscleife :

I learnt Snetterton and Brands Indy from videos I got from www.radicalms.co.uk which I believe has now become www.radicalmotorsport.com but I don't know if they are still there. Well worth a look though if you want some of the UK tracks. The castle Combe one is the old circuit though, pre chicanes.

That Villeneuve lap is Estoril, last race of '97 I believe...
Anybody found any good onboards of Valencia? (Going warm weather testing there later this week...)
Cheers

Thanks for the link to Radical's site, Simon. I _love_ the Cadwell video, fantastic course! A shame it's far too narrow for real cars. Wonderful for small sports racers, motorcycles and formula cars, though! We need more circuits with great personality like that.

Thanks also the track ID, Rick.

Cadwell, what a fantastic circuit! Our own mini-nurburgring set in the Lincolnshire countryside.

I have just realised why I live here.
