F1 urged to embrace modern media
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80501
This should have been said years ago, but it's not yet too late to start. F1 rights management is so far behind the times and run as if nothing has changed in two decades. It's as if someone somewhere, don't know who, just "doesn't get" the Internet and New Media. A bit like Rupert Murdoch who just doesn't get it in the media world and is soon going to ask people to pay to read his drivel on line. |

Considering that F1 is widely recognised as the most technologically advanced sport in the world, it's broadcast in a way that is set in the 1980's. F1 was very late to this interweb mallarky (did they think it wouldn't catch on?) and considering the availability of HD (sadly, not available in my household!) it really should be broadcast in HD. Hell, F1 should have pioneered HD sports broadcasting.
Oh, and a YouTube channel would be nice Bernard. Y'know, like WRC has done. And IRL. |

F1 Digital was canned at a time when not many people were using that sort of TV equipment, and now people are, it's not back.

I loved F1 digital back in the day, kept that thing on the onboard channel all through the race.

The real failure is in not promoting the sport within the new media arenas where young people now obtain an increasing amount of their entertainment. |

Good news or bad news depending on how they'll do that...

But as one of my young sons once said (not an F1 fan): "What's the point of watching paint dry in High Definition!?".

You get the feeling with F1, MotoGP and to an extent WRC - that they are waiting to see if this 'internet' thing catches on - with their utter reluctance to engage with even major non-official internet sites and a decent web presence and content for their official sites.
On TV - Bernie seemed to be ahead of his time, and now the time has caught up, cutting edge thinking is nowhere to be found |

Don't be ridiculous, the whole idea is not about why or could it's all about?..
I will get back to you on that... Last edited by JeremySmith; 10 Dec 2009 at 04:42. |

Do they still use typewriters and send telegrams in the media centre at races?

I have it on good authority that most F1 hacks use carrier pigeons to sent their reports back to HQ.

Wasn't it an email that didn't get to the Ferrari team telling them to start on Wets? ;-)
Either that's a sign that they're not too far behind the times, or their email server is woefully out of date! |

It would be much more appealing if he actually had three pedals. Maybe more like this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdWSyrqEnE4&NR=1 Much more of a 'technique' going on there don't you think. |
