djt46 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Bathurst 24 Hour

Auto Action and Motorsport News both running stories today about a real attempt to revive the Bathurst 24 Hour. It's all costed and good to go, just needs the Bathurst Regional Council to approve the plan.

Excellent news. I just hope that a few GT2 and GT3 teams from Europe make the trek or else I fear entry numbers may be lacking. Still, good news.

Aim would be to have a range of FIA classes including GT1,2,3, possibly Japan SuperGt, GrandAm, etc.
Event needs to be an international event if it is to be a success and have the appropriate status.

I dont think it will happen.

The front page of the Bathurst about 2 weeks ago newspaper was a feature about the 24hr and how council vetoed the possibility of another for a while.

Why would the council veto more tourism dollars ?

Check out this press release http://www.v8central.com/pitlane/rac...p?newsitem=483

Seems the 24 hour would just be a large part of a whole motorsport festival. I like it.

Few things though, the organisers said they are looking for an early 2006 time period for the race. International participation is integral, would European/American teams be willing to travel to Aus at this point of the season ?

Vehicle Regulations are said to be similar to Nurburgring, which does concern me a little, mainly from the Mongrel factor eg Monaro, Porsche turbo etc. While international presence is important, the race also needs a strong Australian participation and I'm not sure if Aus motorsport can support these kind of vehciles.

If the regs say were to be GT2, GT3 and then below this allows a good number of Australian cars to compete while also enticing the cream of the GT2 and GT3 world to compete for top honours at 24 hour race, which they cant in any other endurance event.

Certainly won't be spring, event planning is very detailed and the time frame has been designed to accomodate Northern Hemisphere winter so Euro/US teams could well be attracted by a little Aussie sunshine. Also Aust teams would be in the Dec/March layoff so they too should be looking for a little action. As for the naysayers the BRC did not knock the idea on the head, they are evaluating all their options. The Western Advocate story was written from speculation after somebody leaked the discussions that were being held with the Council.
Read the media release referred to above or the AA story on p3 and the MN story on p10-11.
We intend to make this happen, join in or be left behind.
Yes i am involved and I would say that

Erki has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Would V8 supercars be allowed to drive there too?

Sounds like a lot of fun.

This thing can happen but it needs a lot of support from fans. you can also influence the Bathurst REgional Council to support the event by voting with your voices.

Most certainly not. They'd struggle to make 24 hours anyway.

Chucky, agreed, this is a race for sports and GT cars not supertaxis. However, interesting that three old AU supertaxis are not racing in Britcar as Ford Falcon GTs and winning races! Not over 24 Hours of course.

Bathurst Regional Council website is : http://bathurst.local-e.nsw.gov.au/
and the somewhat out of date but new looking Mount Panorma Circuit website they run is :
http://www.xenware.net/mountpanorama/
You can contatc them through either site I think.
The more voices raised in support of a 24 Hour the more they are likely to listen.

adam sharpe runs some old AU Falcon SuperTaxis in Britcar which are quite successful apparently. Not sure how they are legal but obviously they fit the regs!
a 95 car would be getting a bit long in the tooth!!!

It is getting long in the tooth, but has a new engine and has been completely rebuilt. All new suspension parts onto an ageing but good 95 shell.
