Combe Modifications

In a small, bottom of the page item in this week's Autosport, it says that "Castle Combe will undergo a number of small modifications this winter. Chief among these will be a new pit wall to provide greater protection for marshals and team personnel."

IMHO, not before time!
There are a number of safety issues that I hope will be ironed out by this new wall, not lease the fact that is is waist height with no protection above, and that when flagging from the startline, you can't actually see very well down the pit side of the track!

I look forward to April 1st and training day to see what has been done!

Nighthawk has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I still say it should be a Gravel run off at quary and tower

I don't think that 5 yards (or less) of gravel would actually acheive very much in those locations... apart from a lot more red flags.

Would make it live up to it's name more!!!

Perhaps a high grip tarmac run off would be better, with cameras!!

Yeah put down gravel traps or tarmac and totally ruin the one circuit in the South left that has any traditional character. Leave it alone.

Gravel....Whats wrong in trying to make things safe both for us and the drivers.
Yes i agree the character of the circuit is important but we live in a world of ever changing ways and motorsport aint getting slower.
somethings have to give.......

Gravel may do the trick at Quarry, but Tower?
Not enough room I think to put in a decent trap. And then obviously the marshals will get litterd in gravel when somebody goes off, the track will be covered in gravel like a rallycross track, cars will more easily start rolling once they dig in.
Not the best thing to do at Tower I guess.

I'm not sure gravel at quarry would be a good idea though either, unless the bank was moved back or something so there was more space / run off at the corner.

Making it 'safer' just encourages BTCC-like driving. Not what is wanted, thanks, my vote would be to leave it alone.

It would be wrong because Combe prides itself on the level of close viewing given to spectators. Also "History" within Motorsport is a very important thing although given some of the absolute rubbish that is written in this forum about circuit priorities you wouldnot think it. In general the speed of cars at Combe is no higher than 10 years ago, just leave it as the beautifull throwback to The Golden Age Of Motorsport" ie 60's, 70's.

Nanny State safety cannot be let, to ruin every small piece of Motrsport History!!!
