F1 - The Movie..
This is mostly true...
According to a report (Autosport) today, Darren Star, the man behind hit shows 'Sex and the City', 'Beverly Hills 90210', and something called 'Melrose Place' is in talks with the BBC over a comedy drama based on the world of Formula One racing. With the working title of ‘Sex and Silverstone’, the show is described by the BBC as being like ‘NASCAR meets 'Dynasty'. "It's an enormous sport overseas that barely exists in The States," Star told variety.com "It's a dazzling world and fun world to explore, and I usually take my cues for shows (by imagining) worlds I'd like to spend time in myself." You couldn't make it up.... Rob |

If it is a movie - I'll go see it. A sitcom - I will not miss a single episode!

I did have a selection of drivers / team bosses for suitable roles, but I did not want to be accused of driver bashing. Still, Nascar meets Dynasty ? The mind boggles !

Why are people mocking this?
It's not a movie, or a sitcom - it's a comedy drama serial along the lines of Footballers Wives. Ideal for exposing F1 to a new audience. |

Let's see what Bernie has to do with it.

What new audience?
Like that of Coronation Street/Neighbours/Home & Away? Since when is that a good thing? |

If they'll base the movie in the current characters, it will be a boring story...

I thought F1 was already a sit-com
Seriously though, I can't imagine Bernie agreeing to this. Not with any 'official' name anyway. |

Do we want F1 exposed to endless droves of shallow people? I think it does alright as it is thanks! |

Hmm... the plan of basing this around the IRL must have fallen through then.

Strange change of tune , as opposed to the "F1 in the mainstream" one... |

I just find the whole idea deranged though.
F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport, not "Sex & The City"! |

It gets several million viewers, and has successfully sold at huge profits around the world.
As someone in the broadcasting industry, I view that as certainly a good thing. |

Anyway, I see they will have a hard time trying to set up a dialogue between Kimi's character and Ralf's one...

fictional characters mixed in with the existing F1 characters might prove very entertaining. with all the problems and egos associated with F1, some satire would be a welcomed thing.
and if they do it right it will only lead to people interested in F1 which in the end means more F1 on tv which is what everyone wants, no? |

I am eager to see if Briatore will be played by himself or another actor!! because I think his character would be ideal for something similar.

For the most-part i think most of the drivers could be played by Manakins or cardboard cut-outs,much cheaper too!

I have this unfortunate visual of Danny DeVito playing Rubens
