Did I ever show you this Cliff. One of my customers specialises in remastering film scores and rereleasing on DVD and vinyl. We did the artwork for the album cover, see bottom right who its dedicated to as he loved Minis as you know.

Am sure like most on here, I spot classics on an almost daily basis this time of year. Few weeks ago it was a Vauxhall Viva convertible- parked in the high street with top down. Now that car must be rare? Today it was a K reg Saab 96, which I guess would make it a V4, towing a small period caravan. The van was one of those that look a bit bubble like, so hope the Saab occupants were of suitable stature!

Talking of classics I'm now proud owner of a Porsche 924 . Before you all start thinking I'm making loads of money out of motor racing then sorry to disappoint you I was given the car . Will fix it up and use for practice round the Nurburgring .

Even the LT vans are difficult to find in the breakers Iain so spares are harder to find.

Let me tell you a cautionary tale........(and no laughing at the back!)
As we left Blanche's daughter's house on Wednesday night, an old manhole cover casing in her pathway gave way as I stood on it, causing the cover to pivot diagonally, and me to disappear rapidly into the hole - at least my left leg did, whilst I more-or-less did the splits with my right leg horizontal - ripped my jeans apart! I also seemed to have landed hard on my left arm, and since then have been in a lot of pain and have limited mobility on my left arm/shoulder. A&E say nothing broken, but could be several weeks before its sorted - as shoulders are "tricky"...... Good job Blanche hadn't drunk much last night as she could drive home (and I only had one hand able to grab the dashboard in panic!) Haven't sleep much last few nights - doze off for an hour or so then turn and OWWW! awake for next hour or so - trying the painkiller and alcohol route tonight........ So, beware of man-eating manholes! _________________ |

Very sorry for you Richard nothing worse than not getting your sleep through pain . Over the years with cracked ribs through racing and it's blooming painfull . Soon pass for you I hope .After all the years I've been at spa I finally got round to cycling round the old circuit last night . Lovely evening for it . Got back to paddock and fellow competitor down in the dumps as he lost a wheel at Le Combe in the race along with the only hub he has . I said come on everyone search party needed so off we all went up to the corner to try and find missing part . Guess what , could not find it . Did find that missing spanner though

Just got in time for a snooze, and I've walked around Spa looking for parts of my car over the years and it's surprising what you find !
I have seen starter motors/brake pads/calipers and a piston complete with a U shaped con rod. Perhaps the pikey boys got there first Iain ? |

Catching up on the bright side of life comments here and see Iain's acquired a 924...I had one once I rescued from the scrappy. Great thing except the boot catches never fully sealed the boot and it kept poisoning me with exhaust fumes!
Maybe there ought to be a new post headed"things i have bought on Ebay as a result of a three pint purchase". I only mention this in passing as having sampled three pints of the ale Delta will be getting for the Classic BBQ I foolishly perused Ebay classic motors....and am now the dubiously proud owner of a series three land rover. Why did I do it? I have no idea. I've ended up with something I don't need, can't afford and don't really want! |

Gordon and Delta you both speak wise words...If I still have it for the Stoke Row Festival next year I might put it up for auction...
I had forgotten how dreadfully poor they drive. I mean there is a steering wheel but it doesn't do much!! |

One of the few cars I ever bought which turned out to be a really cracking buy was at the wrong (or right) end of a bottle of wine. All the odds were stacked against it however...Ebay...Jaguar...V12...Sovereign S3. Words which babelfish translates as "don't go there" but in this case I picked up an absolutely rust free (I kid you not) beauty for £3K. Sadly, decided to sell a year later as I ran out of garage space but a lovely car and in my opinion the coolest Ford ever built I'd have another tomorrow if I could find one.

Had a few V12 Jags myself over the years, and boy they can drink. Come to think of it, maybe that's why we're drawn to them on eBay after we've had a few ourselves - could it be we're just looking for something that can keep up in the drinking stakes? I reckon a V12 Jag would drink most of us under the table! Richard - hope you're on the mend now mate. Saw Rob at Mallory on Sunday and couldn't believe how well he looked, seems to be well on the road back to normality (well, as much 'normal' as he ever was!). Do you reckon his swift recovery has anything to do with the fact that he's a pharmacist? |

16mpg from every V12 I've had, 12 if 'spirited'. Those who claim 20 are the sort you don't want to get stuck behind. Very economical when compared to my Interceptor which on one memorable journey managed just over 2!!! and struggled to do 12 on a careful day. As quick as I poured it in it came out of the back but at under £1 a gallon who cared?!! Thinking back to when I ran garages for Ultramar and a gallon hit 50p the forecourts were empty......for all of a week
My God, now I feel old. |
