Minardi fan should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
From Planet F1, 29th June 2000:

June 29: Minardi will be focusing on their
qualifying performance this weekend, feeling
that decent grid positions will enable their car
to show what it is really capable of.

In Canada, both drivers posted faster times in the
race than in the qualifying session the previous
day, and the team believe that not making the
most of the qualifying hour is holding them back.

Unlike other teams, the Italian outfit do not have
specific engines for qualifying, and are therefore
putting themselves at a disadvantage.

The team are hoping that this weekend will give
them the chance to show what the A21 can do,
and are especially encouraged that in the last race
Marc Gene was the 4th quickest in the first sector
of the Gilles Villeneuve circuit, where engine power
benefits from longer straights.

So now all of a sudden minardi has a great engine?!

Well good luck to them with it, but every team is aiming for a better grid position, they'll have a hard time as usual.

Um...I never been to Planet F1 but this isn't about Minardi, it's about the Arrows team and thier A21 chassis and the "fast" Supersuck engine.
A little bit  nowdays MinardiFan?

Yes, I was suspicious because I know perfectly well that the A21 is not a Minardi. Bloody journos.

OK, I've been posting with varying regularity in this forum for a while now. I find it heartening, wonderful and downright remarkable that there are so many fans of Minardi here! Before, I'd never met any! Not one. I mention Minardi in conversation and the usual response would be "yeah, right, whatever". Here it's "GO MINARDI!!!". Good to see we support the little ones too.

Well, actually I wasn't a fan until I got to this Forum. I knew nothing about them before! But the more I learned the more I liked.

Hands up who hates/wants to see the demise of Jaguar?

........or any team that has stacks of money thrown at it and gets bog all results. The WORST perpatrators of this are BAR, of course, NOT Jaguar. Sauber, I always think could do better. When thay first came into F1 they were startlingly good. They've failed to progress as well as I thought they would. Minardi, on the other hand, have peanuts and still can qualify withing 107% of Michael Schumacher et al. Unbelievable, when you think about it.

Sauber should be doing so much better, what with a decent budget AND Ferrari engines. The less said about BAR and Jaguar the better.

Wahey! Ok, so they are 21st and 22nd, but the Minardis were only 2 seconds off of pole time. Indeed, Gene was I think 2 tenths off of Verstappen's time.

Hey, it's a start.

Have to agree with you on the Irv point there:
He's my fav. because he's not afraid to speak his mind, he actually posseses a sense of humour, he's dry, ironic, sarcastic and the ultimate playboy. He has personality, something that modern F1 drivers have almost none whatsoever. He's consistent and showed that, given the right equipment, he is capable of competing with the best of them. When the opportunity arose at Ferrari, he was able to come from a long way behind to seriously challenge Mika "side-parting" Hakinnen, a vastly inferior driver. Eddie Irvine is no Shumacher, but he's not half bad. But whereas I can respect good drivers like the HHF's and Trulli's of this world, they all have ZERO CHARISMA!!!

Anyway, back to the topic. Minardi's aim for better grid posisions sadly has NOT paid off. They may be close, but all the others are closer. I remeber when Minardi were mid-grid, only by the default of everyone else being even worse (!). Keep plugging away, chaps; it's getting better.

We're getting there...

Minardi have said that this was the best qualifying performance so far all season. For Gene to be only 2.4 secs off of the pace when they hadn't tested there and without a specific qualifying engine is a bloody good job. Mazzacane at only 2 tenths slower also did good.

Ok, so it's still the back row, but only because the midfield is pretty evenly matched, and Prost now have a specific qualifying engine.

It would be nice to be further up the grid - but at only 2.4 secs off pole I'm not complaining. Much.

KEEP GOING BOYS!!!!!!!!

FORZA MINARDI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
