Challenge: IMS original road course proposal

At the turn of the 20th Century, a 2.5 mile oval automobile racetrack named the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was proposed. This also featured an infield road course to greater test the cornering ability of the automobiles.

4.980 miles // 8.013 km
Anticlockwise

The year is 2000 AD. However, while the oval was repaved with tarmac in the 1960's, the infield road course still retains it's original brick surface, and the layout itself now lags far behind modern international standards. Your task is to bring the track up to these standards, in preparation for Formula 1's first race at "The Brickyard".

Good luck.

Didn't the original road course at IMS actually host a race? The name's on the tip of my lips but I can't quite remember it...

Interesting. Let's see what we can come up with.

Mike, I think the idea is there is no golf course, its do what you like within the Oval.

Basically yeah. My thought was to use the original road course as a rough template, so try and use a bit of it, but if you find that too limiting, then sure, let your imagination run free.

And no, for the purposes of this exercise, the "good walk spoiled" area does not come into consideration

Here's my edit. It runs anti-, sorry, counter-clockwise, the normal direction for Indy. I've used bits of the original road-course, but some of the ideas of run-off were a bit - err - interesting back then. I think this version might be just a touch too mickey mouse in places, but it's probably not as bad as the current version.

Here's my go at Indy. I tried to keep the spirit of Indy i.e. the long straight and fast corners. I also wanted to re-use parts of the original 1909 road course... which sucked, by the way.
