Sunday night won''t work, unfortunately. Folks need to be getting back to work Monday. I like it under the lights, but the 500 this year was full under the lights so this will be the throwback Firecracker 400.

Barney Hall is stepping down. 50 years? Wow!

Yeah, gonna miss old Barney! Been with him, since the beginnning of MRN! They use to start the Firecracker 400, at 10:00 am, for just this reason, to get it run, before the afternoon rains set in!

Green flag finally flies and they are running in Daytona. Looks like a possibility of some showers today so lets hope it goes green and stays dry, minus the competition caution coming up.

I was thinking of the 6 hours of Daytona but it may end up being Petit Daytona. 10 hours or 500 miles, whichever comes first.

From what I see so far, the chances of a small team winning are very high. They've been leading most of the laps up to this point.

Red flag for rain. #43 out front. Radar looks troubling unless you are Aric and the #43 team. Would be neat to see the #43 take the win on the 30th anniversary of Petty's last win at the speedway.

Race has been called. Congrats to Aric Almorola for his first victory in Sprint Cup, and indeed on the 30th anniversary of Petty's last win at the speedway, as Fieldy said.

Indeed and 14 years since Petty Enterprises has seen victory lane!

Congrats to Aric and Petty!

This is the best outcome possible for such a cluster of a weekend. Aric would be in the top 10 in points, and have several top 5 and top 10 finishes if not for the good runs that went to crap.

Speaking of which, the whole weekend was crap. Rain messed up Cup and NW practices, messed up Cup qualifying, caused NASCAR to postpone the race to today, and "racin' the rain" contributed to the big ones. Nature had it against NASCAR from the start of the weekend.

Aric's win = good
no one injured in the accidents = good
43 wins on 30th anniversary of Richard Petty's last win = good
Barney Hall retiring, hate to see him go, but he earned and deserves it = good

Can't see allot else good about the last 48 hours. On to next week.

Helluva lot of coincidences. Reminds me of Young Earnhardt winning in his only Nationwide outing with the three in Wrangler colours. Anyway, congratulations to Team Petty and best of luck to Barney Hall.

Now we just need Ambrose winning at the Glen and all will be even better, because they'll both be competing for the championship!

Nice to see a daytime Firecracker 400 again, it's been a while. Shame about the rain but very cool to see the #43 back in victory lane; big congrats to Aric Almirola and the entire Petty team!

I listened as much as I could to MRN and Barney Hall during the race. Let's just say it is time for Mr. Hall to step aside.

I wish him the best in his retirement. It will be a little odd not hearing his voice when I tune into the events via the magic of radio.

Nine of NASCAR's largest teams have formed an alliance with the aim of exploring common interests and collaborating on initiatives to promote the sport.
The organization initially consists of Chip Ganassi Racing, Hendrick Motorsports, Joe Gibbs Racing, Richard Childress Racing, Michael Waltrip Racing, Richard Petty Motorsports, Roush Fenway Racing, Stewart-Haas Racing and Team Penske, although it says that it plans to invite all full-time Sprint Cup teams to join in the near future.
MWR co-owner Rob Kauffman, who will serve as chair of the RTA, said that the formation of the group gives structure to a previously loose collaboration.
"The teams have met in various forms and forums over the years to explore areas of common interest," he said. "This simply formalizes what was an informal group. We all have vested interests in the success and popularity of stock car racing.
"By working together and speaking with a single voice, it should be a simpler and smoother process to work with current and potential groups involved with the sport."
In addition to creating ways to develop the series, the group also plans to investigate opportunities to exploit the combined purchasing power and scale of the team operations to improve efficiencies in costs.
RTA's formation marks the first time that NASCAR's teams have been represented as a single entity to engage with the sport's stakeholders.

I am now longing for the days when guys went point racing and a real champion was decided, not crowning someone a champion based on who did 100% better than 8% of the field in the last race of the season after 92% of the field has been eliminated based on arbitrary methods. Jeff Burton and Bobby Labonte could qualify for the Chase if they win. What does that prove or add to the show these days? The Glen is still coming up. Does Taz really deserve a shot at the Championship this year if he wins?

What a crock! At least the tracks are packed for race weekends and people are watching
