Why doesn't Nascar use them? They can't say they cost too much because every other series race series in the world utilise them, and plus it eliminates a man from pit lane. Couldn't ya'll see that as a safety improvemnt? You surely can't say that they weigh too much...
What is holding them back? [This message has been edited by Crash Test (edited 23 May 2000).] |

Simple. NASCAR has been asked this before and they have indicated that they want man to be an important part of the equation. The art of jacking up the car on one thrust is difficult to do but saves time and puts man more into the equation. Pit stops are some of the more exciting parts of a race, even to the casual fan. My wife loves watching the pit crews in action so I am sure others do too. I think my wife just likes watching men working hard which is why she makes me still mow our own lawn instead of paying some kid to do it.

True, Joe Fan. NASCAR pit stops are the best to watch, IMO.
I think it also goes back to the "stock" car theme. You don't jack up your family grocery-getter with a pneumatic jack, do you? Regular street cars have lug nuts and are jacked up manually. I think that's what NASCAR is trying to emulate in their pit stops. |
