Compulsory pit stops in F1
Pathetic. As if one compulsory stop isn't already one too many.

It seems like a reasonable compromise between no stops and 3 or 4 stops.
This is exactly what Pirelli said would happen if they didn't get agreement between the teams to come up with test dates to test their tyres on. It should be a lot of fun trying to figure out who has to pit when, and what tyres they need to put on. |

"drivers will not be allowed to use the 'prime' specification of tyres for more than 50 per cent of the race distance, while the 'option' compound will not be allowed to be used for more than 30 per cent of the race distance."
so what do they use for the remaining 20% - wets? I had to check it's not April 1st..... |

For the remaining 20% you could use either tyre, but you must make a stop for it.
For example: 30% soft tyre 1st stint. 50% hard tyre 2nd stint. 20% hard tyre 3rd stint. I would also think that 2 stops would be a minimum number of stops, so 3 or 4 stops would also be acceptable. Last edited by Marbot; 29 Nov 2013 at 18:40. |

Oh, for goodness sake. It's already difficult enough for fans to figure out what the strategy is, without having to consider whether or not a team's getting close to their 30% on the option tire or whatever.
I say - give the teams both tires, don't mandate that they need to use both, and let the strategists duel it out as to which tire goes on the car, when, and for how long. As for mandatory pit stops - that's ridiculous. |

In this case, I'd like to see Red Bull domination again, just to annoy the organizers who try to create a fake show out of tire strategy.

It now means that Pirelli can make their tyres hard and extra hard for all races no need for different tyres for each track seems such a waste of tyres.

No, no & thrice No!!!
This is meant to be F1 - The supposed 'Pinnacle'..... it's turning into a purely entertainment series with every year/ rule change. Fine for a National series; i;e BTCC, DTM, etc but for F1........?? 'Epic fail'. |

It would appear that the teams have rejected this plan: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/111806

I don't get why people are bemoaning this...the way the tyres have been of late it's been pretty much compulsory 2 stops anyway.

wouldnt this rule eliminate the logic of early pit stops (after 2-3 laps in)?

It would be a gutsy call as the driver would have to overtake probably 5 or 6 cars without being held up, each time out of the pits. |

[QUOTE=Marbot;3338408]I did put a at the end of that sentence.
So did I Marb, I was not being facetious, rather having a pop at some who missed the point, certainly no offence intended, it all seemed rather obvious to me. Kind regards, Bob. |

The rule change will mandate more than the number of pit stops. It also specifies how long the car go (at most) on each type of tire. This seriously undermines teams's ability to optimize their tire strategy and do something creative. Everyone will be basically running on the same tire strategy. How great is that? |

Great Idea! As long as the tyres can be driven hard and no one has to "manage" their tyres, I'm all for it. No more procession after 2 laps!
