Instructor Licence

Anyone have any idea how to go about getting an instructors licence from the msa?

mattray has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
You need to be sponsored by a racing school. Get in touch with Rockingham or Silverstone or Casle Combe or any of the Brands circuits.

I believe that if you get involved with a school and have a decent racing record then it's only a matter of assessment to get a licence.

I did reply to the first comment off line.
Here is the gist of things...

If you are interested in Instructing you muyst have a Nat A and had some decent race experience.
Then contact a race school.
Drive at Sillystone or Rockingham.
New instructors are always welcome as there is a general natural drop out rate.
Also good instructors are hard to find.
Not all good racers make good instructors.

Rockingham contact is Neil Ginn
Sillystone is Chris Ward

The new Palmer set-up still has to be sorted out, but he has his own list based from the Bedford Palmerdome.

At Palmers you need to talk to Phil Ellis, the Bedford number is 01234 332400

What about fairly poor racers? Can they? There may be hope for me yet

are instructors fairly poor? I'd have thought not as most of them seem to be able to afford racing ?

Just give a racing school a call and go along to a couple of experience days with them, take your ARDS Instructors test and thats it

zefarelly: Well I can't afford to race unfortunatly

Instructors poor! YUP we are!
I only raced three times last year engine blew in 3rd race... while in lead.. therefore... END OF SEASON
You dont Instruct to earn megabux, but it is often fun, as well as hard work, but it keeps us out of trouble (mostly!) and on the circuit.

Nah, there's no formal training or requirements all you have to do is turn up on ten-tenths and give yourself a name like "Instructor" !! Sorry Steve, couldn't resist

On a more serious note I believe it now costs 250 pounds to do your Enstructeur grade C licence. Which is a step in the right direction as before you just used to turn up....

YUP that's what I meant about giving the 'tag' of Instructor more meaning..
The formal training is helping keep the quality of instruction up and makes the ARDS registartion actually mean something.

As to your jibe Paul...
Wait 'till your out in that Beemer!

Hi Steve

It's time that they sorted the instructor licences out so that there are criteria for the grade B and C licences e.g. a certain number of years experience. Would give the profession a bit of progression and allow newbie's to the sport to evaluate what level of instruction they are paying what for...I could turn up, pay £250, pass a test and start teaching. I don't even know my own way around a race track let alone how to teach others....

I dont have time to drive the BM at the moment ;( Simon will be giving it a run out on Monday to make sure nothing falls off. Not sure if I will have time to test it before the first race which should make it an "interesting" debut in the series. Still on the waiting list for testing at Silverstone on the 19th...

I fancy doing my instructors license, maybe in a few years when I've got some more experience, never know when it might come in handy, and I hate my current job and poor or not theres got to be better things to do than sit in a bloodt office listening to some bald fat tw*t prattling on all day about sales targets!

Hmm I suppose so...
7pm now
Just returned from a 07.30 start at foggy cold Sillystone
In a 355 all day with 21 guest drivers.

It is def not office stuff but is def hard work.
It makes it worthwhile when you can make great improvements and leave the drivers buzzing with their new found talents!

Out of curiosity, what money do instructors make- say for doing a track day or some provate tuition?

I hear from some of my instructor friends in the UK some of the pay at schools is around 130 to 150 quid a day. Some get up to 250. I think private tuition falls between 500 and a 1000, but you have to build up experience and have some standing to get to that level.

Here in the USA skippy or bondurant only pay around $175 a day to start. There are some instances of instructors at certain schools getting up to $1000 a day. Also there is specialized instruction that falls between $300 and $600 a day.

Im surprised that no-one has mentioned the fact that it will cost in the region of £500,then you HAVE to have a First Aid Certificate as well.
