Sad news. Jim Bamber is part of my memory of getting into motorsport. Used to be a rhea magazine called f1 News c1992-94 and he did amazing stuff in there.

I've got a collection of his strips in a small book and one of his clay pit mechanic models on my shelf.

It's a terrible shame to hear about this, rest in peace Jim.

It was going to happen sooner rather than later because of his ill health but is still not the news you want to hear.

We have an original Bamber cartoon hanging on the wall which was actually delivered in person. The signed books will now get especially looked after and the marshal figurines will be even more treasured.

Jim did great things for the marshals and always supported the club, so I think this is not amiss on this forum.

God bless you, Jim. Go get drawing up in the sky!

Very sorry to learn that Jim's brilliant pen has run out. For those of us on the marshal's thread he'll be valued forever for his (albeit sometimes ironic, but always genuine) support for the orange team. For anyone else who bought or subscribed to Autosport (other magazines were/are available) for many years, his Page 3 cartoons, with the 'character' helmets, and many other more technical contributions, will be items to remember and treasure. A real racing fan, with a talent that no-one else could express in such an entertaining way... Thanks, JB.

Another friend lost too soon, I will miss his humour and good company we shared at the Autosport Shows. He was extremely generous with his artistic skills especially to the Marshals Club even though I featured in some of them.

My thoughts and condolences go to Sally and the children at this sad time.

The funeral will be held on 24th July at 12.45 at the Surrey and Sussex Crematorium, Balcombe Road, Crawley, West Sussex, RH10 3NQ.

It's family flowers only, but if anyone would like to make a donation in Jim's memory, they would like it to go to St Christopher's Hospice (where Jim was so well cared for), 51-59 Lawrie Park Road, Sydenham, London SE26 6DZ, www.stchristophers.org.uk.
