I wonder if anyone has ever considered cadmium or nickel plating the body instead of painting? Good corossion resistance at a fraction of the weight.

You could hard chrome too but since when does metal weigh a fraction of the weight of paint? E.g. let's assume a paint density more or less that of water, which is 1000kg/cu.m vs say steel at 7800kg/cu.m or gold which is more than twice that, etc. Would have to be a pretty light metal to be lighter than paint!

You could be right (I am occasionally incorrect ). I was thinling the Cad. plating as in the gold coloured plateing on the nuts & bolts. You can still see the parent material thru the coating which means it must be thin.

Hi BG,
all will be revealed at Big Boys Toys, in Auckland on the 18/19/20 November next [2011].

Both the the new V8ST Ford Falcon FG, and The Holden Commodore VE2, will be on display, along with most of the drivers over that weekend.

Mark Petch.

Cameron McConville is close to securing a seat in New Zealand’s new V8SuperTourers Series.

McConville, one of Australian motorsport’s most versatile drivers, is eyeing a drive in the new-for-2012 series that kicks off at Hampton Downs in February.

The Toll Holden Racing Team endurance driver says that he is in discussions with a couple of teams, including the Australian-based Melbourne Performance Centre outfit.

“It looks like a great new series and it would be good to be involved from the inception,” McConville told Speedcafe.com.

“From what I can tell, the car looks very close to V8 Supercars’ Car of the Future regulations, which has its benefits come the endurance races.

“I’ve been speaking to a couple of teams, including MPC, but I haven’t got anything 100 percent locked away as yet.

“I’ve spoken to the guys who have done the NZV8 Touring Cars, like David Besnard, Craig Baird, Jason Bargwanna, and they all rave about the racing in New Zealand. It definitely appeals to me.”

If McConville secures a ride in the class, he would join a strong list of drivers who have already signed on for the inaugural series – including Greg Murphy, Craig Baird, John McIntyre, Daniel Gaunt, Scott McLaughlin, Kayne Scott and Andy Booth.

McConville says he is hoping to have a firm answer on his possible involvement in V8SuperTourers in the coming week.

And the sooner McConville gets an answer, the sooner he can start to map out another busy year of racing – both on and off the track. This year, he has raced as James Courtney’s co-driver in the V8 enduros, plus selected Fujitsu Series races and his full-time drive in the Bundaberg Racing V8 Ute.

To add to that, McConville is the driver standards observer for Australian Carrera Cup, GT3 Cup Challenge and Formula Ford.

He says the he is likely to have another busy 2012.

“If Walkinshaw Racing decided to run the Bundy Ute again, I’ll do that – that’s my main gig and my priority,” he said.

“The Fujitsu Series is important for race miles, but it has to fit in around my commitments to Walkinshaw, assuming that goes ahead.

“Fujitsu is still on the radar, but the New Zealand racing definitely appeals to me. It would allow me to focus on one job in Australia and other over there.”

promax has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Te Rapa-based father and son team Derek and Nick Mitchell, trading as Mitchell Race Xtreme, have won the rights to produce the Car of the Future after presenting their #001 chassis to the committee of Veega – the New Zealand V8 touring car governing body – at the Speedshow weekend in Auckland in July.

The FG Ford Falcon was unveiled by owner Andrew Mackenzie and Transport Minister Steven Joyce.

Construction of the next two will get under way within the next few weeks and with any luck most of the cars taking part in the New Zealand V8 touring car section of next year’s ITM Hamilton 400 will be running the new Hamilton-built chassis.

The new prototype, as a finished race car, is expected to have its first outing at Pukekohe in October or November and the aim of the new chassis is to breath new life into the New Zealand V8 touring car racing scene which hasn’t had a major upgrade for the past two seasons.

Managing director Derek Mitchell said there would be a period of transition between the existing race cars and the new ones.

the chassis on trademe must be #001

#001X is the Mackenzie Falcon

#002X the soon to be Commodore

Looks a bit like a stock car chassis.

BTW Shouldn't this be in a seperate NZV8 topic?

Quite right, Humphrey, quite right.

Noticed today that the NZV8 grid this season is down to just 16 cars compared to about 33 some years ago - no wonder they are worried about V8ST...

Continuing slightly off topic, the Tier 1 meeting was frankly rather sad. I enjoyed the BMW support races, with their massive grids, but they are not offically part of Tier 1 and were just there to make up the numbers.

I think it is now getting rather obvious the NZV8ST's are going to kick their butts in terms of popularity.I make the score 1-0 to V8ST's, and the V8ST's haven't even fronted up to race yet!

i don't think 14-15 ST (that haven't been built yet) and a bunch of Honda Civics is going to kick anyone's butt all the split has done is hurt motorsport in NZ

i'd say the score is 0 for motorsport.

Looks like Mr Manuell is still heavily involved. A foot on both sides of the fence or just sitting on it?

But you don't remember that they only had 16 cars in 2009?

To be honest, I think a grid of 16 cars is far less damaging than two groups of people spruiking what is essentially the same class (Yes, motorsport nerds know different, but the general public see something that looks like a V8 Supercar and sounds grunty)...

Splitting the Corporate interest, Fan interest and Media interest is bad for everyone. I just hope the sport as a whole isn't damaged because of it...

Yeah I know, I'd rather it was unified but I'd also rather see TMC not involved too. If the V8ST go some way to achieving that I'll be happy...

Can't believe they used the BMW's for support - great series but definitely a club sport as the cars are old. Mind you, so are pre-65's and V8 Muscle Cars and I love them... Go the Custaxi!
