It's a possibility... i'll say no more All depends on the cost of flights, whether I can get time off work, etc... At the moment i'm just thinking out loud, hence i'd like a little info on what's racing out there during the last few months of this year.

Obviously Bathurst, Gold Coast Indy, etc. but i'd appreciate confirmation of these dates, as well as others, along with a bit of info on the sort of costs involved for these meetings

I know it was brought up at Le Mans that we might do Bathurst next year, I will definatly 100% be up for that!!

But won't be able to this year, not enough time off at work and stuff.

There is also a nice little race in Sydney on the last weekend in October for club cars. Nice little 6 hour relay. And don't forget rally australia in November.

Maybe we should lock up our wives, girlfriends and daughters?

No, simply pointing out that it's a nice time of the year to be here...

If you ask nicely and bring me a ten-tenths t-shirt im sure i can arrange somewhere for you to stay and a way into Bathurst. I can usually scrounge up a ticket from somewhere. But im still not sure about letting poms into bathurst, look what happened last year with our mate matt

Can I expand this a little to include events in January 2002 as well - also are the Sydney new year fireworks as good as alleged ?

Yes, they are... though they are wearing thin with some of the populace, there has been so much done in that department that the show is great.

Another event, in September, I think, is the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Aust Grand Prix, with cars gathering in the Western Australian wheat belt town of Narrogin, where a four and a half mile circuit ran through the streets.

Hmmm ... January huh? About all you want to do then is go to the beach! Not such a bad idea.

I think January generally tends to be the off season - unless you are into sprint cars or drag racing (?!?!?!?!). Maybe TOCA has something on in January with their weird off-season schedule - I haven't seen the 2001-2002 schedule yet (Crash, got a copy?).

Also: (forgot this one before)
Oct 14, Qantas Australian 500cc Grand Prix, Phillip Island, Victoria

Okay, there's a few meetings to be considering... what about the rest ? There seems to be one or two weekends with nothing on ?

How about our own David Patterson... i'd have to come see him race at least once if I did make it over...!

One question for you all... what's the best bet with travelling over there ? Drive, fly or take a train ?

And any thoughts to what the best bet is to do on the weekdays ?

Except for the Perth-Adelaide leg, drive, every time, and even on that one do it once...

There is so much to see, so many alternative routed to take between cities, flying kills the whole adventure, trains have limited usefulness and coaches... well, coaches...

I have contacts in the motorhome industry if that helps? Buying one and reselling it at the end would seem good value to me.

A decent Hi-Ace diesel unit might be had for $11,000 or so, three months on you'd get most of it back.

The two middle weekends in September (15 and 23?) there are is the QRDA meeting, and the first TOCA meeting at Lakeside. I think David will be running down in Sydney at that time. If you're desperate for a place to stay, I'll let you sleep in my bed, while I go over to the g/f's

Weekdays...hmmm...sleep, beach, drink, sleep, eat a bannana, drink, sleep. Hey Moff?

Ahhh Lorna....I shouldn't have given you so many events from my calendar

Things like Saturday afternoon sprints, where a heap of road cars circulate aimlessly aint exactly 'fun' spectating...and I didn't know that people spectated at motorkhanas

Yeah, the trucks and Historic tourers are sensational around the short track at OP- I'd strongly recomend it.
