Pregnant rollerskate, lemons aside, finally got mine the other day.

Before what I am about to say I want to stress this thing cost less than £5K brand new. Got it with 4 miles on the clock, smelling great, as all new cars do!

First impression, as small cars go, better styling than a Micra, Saxo, Fiesta, 106 - I know that's an opinion. Does have the slight impression of wide hips / big arse from behind, but its nicely curvy.

Engine: 1.3 the new one, not the old Fiesta one jammed in. Obvioulsy would not compete pulling away from lights with an Elise, but it does go. So far, yesterday easily beat a Merc, although it caught me after about 15 secs. Sits easily at 70 with no rattles (not able to say about higher speeds as I haven't tried it and would never intentionally break the law!!)

Road holding / cornering - flippin good. In fact I reckon this is a highlight. It sticks, without feeling any alarming roll. Unlike the family Renault Megan Scenic which feels ready to flip at 30 mph on a roundabout.

Interior - for a basic model very good. Nice details, clock, dash (grey/aluminium look), stowage (can and bottle holders!), upholstery, even sunglasses net!.

Downsiders:

Not much room for big people. My mate who's 6ft plus had his knees round his ears! No jokes on that one please!

Last quarter on fuel gauge went down frightenly fast on the motorway the other day, Thought I had plenty left and had to get off qucikly at next junction.

Basic hi-fi is very basic. Can't get BBC 5-Live on 909/693! Arrgg! Gonna have to fork out for a different one with CD at some point.

No central locking on basic model - but I can live with that for a round-town-runabout.

Boot is pretty small - but then again what do you expect.

Honest assessment from me: 8/10 but great value for the money. I'd buy a new one again for £4495 having driven one around for a week or so.

Sorry - £4995 - don't want to make the deal sound any better than it was.

Don't want to be harsh, but - well, you bought one. Nevr mind. Just park it a long way away and drive the Lotus at conspicous times!

Next time you've got 5K to spend, get a golden oldie - like an old M-sport Bimmer (my Dad picked up a decent M535i - the proper one, not the pretend one for 2-3K), though running costs are a bit steep (and might out in the wet!!)

You can't knock 5 grand for a new car. As far as little city runabout type things go, the Ka's not bad. They say it feels bigger inside than its competitors.

I hate the Ka, but I hate all other small cars equally. Except the Mini - that's cool !

The problem with old M series Beemers and the like is that they're more than likely up for sale because someone looked at what they could afford for 3-4 g's but forgot to think about running costs and have realised they can't afford it. Which means it's probably ed...

Yeah - good advice - but sadly with two little nippers running costs were one of the main priorities.

I now have 3 years warranty, no MOT considerations for ages, insurance group 2 - the lowest I have ever known and of course the lovely drinks and can holders.

Sadly those issues are important as I now have to buy things like tiny 'fitted' kids shoes that cost £25 a pair

Unless you are very well laced (not the chip habit, but dosh-loaded) sporty cars are for younger, single people or those whose kids have got through university.

I reckon once you have kids you have to go through a sensible, uncool stage of life. But the sleeples nights are worth it!

I pick my new Ka up on Tuesday, and I'm looking forward to it.

Hugh, you can get a Ka CD player on ebay for £130, and it apparently just plugs straight in.

Anyone want to buy a 2nd hand Fiesta?

Non-metallic red. Common, but looks ok.

For the CD player, just type "Ka" into the seach page within Ebay.co.uk , and amongst the list (2 or 3 screens worth) you should see a couple of CD players for sale (unless they have been sold by now). I think some sellers even include a tool to remove the old unit, and they say that the new unit will plug straight in. (I'm not sure if it is as straight forward as they say, but let me know of you go ahead and do it!)
