Either the WRX (for all the reasons already mentioned) or the Lotus Elise..... proof that modern sports cars can still be about driving, not just looking the part.

I really don't want to say this..........cos i can't stand the mark 1 and 2 cars, but..............the ford Mondeo. There was nothing outstanding about it, it was very basic and not a stunning car, however they did sell...........and they contiuned to sell well through the 90's till this very day. And they are a 'family car'. However i would never buy one. I like my cars to have charector!

I don't like Mondeos, however, i'll admit, they changed the Sierra!

Some good suggestions, apart from certain American trucks. The Impreza and F355 particularly spring to mind.

However, hasn't everyone forgotten the Aston Martin DB7 or have I missed something. Great looker, properly developed and produced with (whisper it) Ford money, AND It's spawned a generation of new Astons, like the Vanquish. I want a new DB7 GT.

PS. There's nothing wtong with Porsches (or IS that the problem some people seem to have with them?).

i like the idea of the mondeo. or perhaps the ford escort? perhaps towards the end of it's life but people didn't half buy it.

performance wise, the mclaren was and still is the peak of engineering and speed and tecchie stuff.

on the other hand, the lotus elise brought top notch sportscars to the masses.

argh.

There's a big argument for the Mondeo.

Can't agree with the DB7 - it was developed with precious little Ford money using the Jaguar scrap bin - it was on an XJS platform for Chrissakes!!! It was impractical, unreliable and poorly built. Jaguar - somewhat bizzarely - showed Aston what they could have done with the XK8 only a couple of years later.

I'm biased towards the Impreza. Certainly a good bet for the enthusiasts' car of the nineties.

What about the monobox Shahlambraxy? - took the Espace idea and revolutionised family motoring...

Ok, ok, I've got me coat, I'll be off...

Can't let the DB7 go I'm afraid. It was/is much greater than the sum of its parts and why the fact that it uses a modified XJS floor pan and a development of Jaguar's AJ6 unit should deny it the right to be great, escapes me! It is one of Callum's finest designs, far mor attractive than the XK8 which looks ostentatious and bloated by comparison, especially at the rear. I think you'll find that, after initial teething problems, the DB7 was a reliable car and you won't find many vehicles better built than an Aston - even a 'mass' produced one.

No, The DB7 is definitely in and I adhere to my earlier assertion!

as for my car of the 90's.......R31 GTS-R, but thats just me
SilEighty - for bringing on the drift
R32 GT-R - lean mean fighting machine

WRX...hmmm, I only like the 94 ones, cos they're differen't, even if they are slower, weaker and less spec'ed

I accept the build quality and reliability of the DB7 has improved no end of late, part of Aston's recent renaissance that has brought us the Vanquish. And it does look gorgeous. And the new DB7 Vantage is just awesome - finally it has dynamic ability to back up iuts looks. OK, it's a great car. But not the car of the nineties, because as a GT it has and always will play second fiddle to the 911.

Nissan Skyline (all versions, but especially the R32) - for me rates alongside the Impreza as enthusiasts' car of the nineties.

Forgetting the nineties for the moment, I believe there are three cars worthy of the title 'car of the 20th century'...
The Mini, the Landrover and the 911. In their own way, each of them signified a gigantic leap forward in automotive technology.

Skyline r33 or r34 Scoobies sti/wrx (whatever) or BMW's M5

they are all iconic and every one would give a testie for They all do so much in similar way

oh and woodyracing the engines are not the same the main reason they are both so good for tuning is there twin turbo'd and have an over engineered iron block

I'll go with that garcon - only mentioned it because, whilst agreeing with most of the suggestions so far - the DB7 seemed to have been left out as an option. The Skyline would be one of my choices too

As for the car of the century - there are hundreds of possibilities! The Land Rover, Mini and 911 would definitely be three of them, and I might add the E-Type as well, even though it wasn't produced for anything like the length of time of the three above.

Well it has to be the 90's Wrex so I suppose coming in a close 3rd for the General would be the fantastic Calibra Mk2, the Turbo 4WD..................
