To be fair Andy didn't do enough to stay in DTM, I couldn't see BMW keeping him in DTM in 2014 anyway, but at least he still has a BMW contract.

What's wrong with Maxime Martin and Belgium?
He's a very talented driver and with his history as a BMW junior it's now time to move up.

I feel the "pinnacle of German motorsport" should push German talents, like Jens Klingmann. But to be fair, Maxime Martin is no feeder formula reject and has shown has capabilities in GT racing.

Yeah this.

Capable? Gee that's a bit of understatement. He's an incredibly talented GT driver, a star of that world and not just in a BMW also.

Who knows how'll he'll go in DTM but he's fully deserving of a seat. I'll be sad to see him leave sportscars, it's sportscars loss as he's a brilliant driver.

Great to see Andy Prilaux back in GT though, he never really looked comfortable in DTM which shouldn't be a slight on his driving abilities as he has been fantastic with everything else he's driven.

It is quite a strong possibility, given that Merc will have two extra seats, but will they want their racing entry to be seen as a step-down from F1?

The DTM is unforgiving of past champions - look at Tomczyk and Scheider - and moving into the series from F1 does not always work out well.

From a marketing point-of-view it will get more promotion for the series (look at Timo Glock's massive popularity this season) but having two British drivers for the marque might be seen as excessive, particularly given the trimming of the British round for 2014.

Mercedes have run more than 2 British drivers before - Paffet, Green, DiResta, Coulthard and Stoddart (Wolff) in 2010. It's probably his best option to be honest (it's either that or Indy really).

I just wish they would ditch the DRS and two compound tire rules. They don't help the racing and just make it look very gimmicky. That being said, this is a consistent theme with the DTM and motorsports involving Mercedes it appears. They ran the series into the ground in the mid-1990s trying to go international, and likely will do so again. And Mercedes seems to think that every series should be just like F1.

There's a lot of potential for a great series, but it always seems to be unrealized with the DTM. *sigh* I have to wonder how things would go if they did the series to RWD-only NGTC rules. It would be cheaper, and the racing would be so much better.

I read an interview with Ernest Knoors (team owner of MTEK). He wants more races (around 15 so there's every 2 weeks a race), power increase of 300 bhp and 200 kg decrease of car weight.

Aussie V8s have 650hp and 1350 kg. That sounds like more fun.

But more events equals more fans? They could do two races in Italy and Britain, return to Belgium and Netherlands, while keeping five races in Germany.

I don't think, that there will be many spectators in Italy, without a good italian driver or manufacturer.

british spectators might come because they love racing in any way, and of course there are british drivers too (but would be happy, if Jaguar is also in the game).

Other countries don't like to see DTM, because it is rather anonym for them (who knows Spengler outside of Germany??? - maybe even Canadians don't know him really).

nico mueller takes filipe albuquerque's dtm drive:

http://tentenths.com/news/showentry.php?e=3933

i know it's not quite the exciting signing a lot of people are hoping for, but the guy is textbook audi and he'll be an excellent addition. perhaps he's not the quickest over a single lap, but he's a very smart guy and really put in some excellent drives in formula renault 3.5 over the past 2 years.

God, another robot from Formula BongoBongo. That'll put some butts into the seats...

If Audi had to sign a foreigner, why not a REAL touring car driver like Johan Kristoferson? But why do I complain? DTM sucks and I hope this cancerous parasite on German auto racing will die a quite and painful death!

Then tell me, why should the average German fan (Not the racing nerd that is found on the internet) care about foreign drivers? Foreign drivers don't have any drawing appeal to the German fans, who prefer to cheer on one of their own. I mean, why else did F1 get huge attention in Germany, after Michael Schumacher became successful?

The big problem with DTM is: None of the drivers are known with the general audience of average sporting fans. That wasn't the case back when Bernd Schneider, Hans-Joachim Stuck or Klaus Ludwig were driving in the series. Hell, we don't even have to go that far back: The new DTM had its best times and most mainstream attention, when Häkkinen, Alesi and Frentzen were racing in the series. But at the moment, DTM receives close to zero mainstream attention. For all the mockery of Ralf Schumacher's DTM tenure: At least he had a big name and brought some attention to DTM. So the long-term solution for DTM should be: Veterans from F1 and German talents.

i'd love to know of some big name german drivers who actually want to do dtm but who are being ignored because they'd prefer to go for the younger guys. right now, germany doesn't actually have any big young talents (unless i'm being really dumb). whose fault is that??

the thing is, guys like nico and antonio felix da costa, like it or not, are the future of motorsport. it's a real coup for the series that these two guys have ended up there. they need to be quicker than f1 in realising that the shape of the series has changed and make the most of it.
