3 hours does seem a very long race time indeed.
However, I am grateful that there is some racing on Saturday as I am a mostly restricted to Saturday marshalling this year, and hate turning up just to "watch" practice and qualifying only.

I'll be there both days - looks like a nice wee 3 hour race to zombify us - just glad I'm not flagging - tough luck timmy 2 sheds. Any idea on numbers?
At least IO's can take a few zeds if things are quiet. (this is sarcasm BTW).
What I find more upsetting is yet again the shortness of break at lunch time - Saturday practice is meant to finish at 1230 with the 924 race at 1255. Sunday looks marginally better, shame we've got karts again.

Al, do you know what the Uniroyal Challenge cars are as it doesn't say in the programme? Three hours does sound a little axhorbitant to me, yet another way to put marshals off doing Saturdays!

re: The three hour race.

Sure its hell for the drivers, but there must be a serious danger for marshals' attention spans. I would imagine its easy to get hypnotised whilst watching that lot go round and round.

I suppose the best thing would be to swap marshals in and out (so one lot can have a kip behing the Obbos' bin, and put a fresh set of legs on the bank). But we all know that's a non-starter as there is rarely enough to man a post properly anyway.

Steve, the Uniroyal challenge -
some answers for you, but still a lot of unknowns, it's a space frame car with a new beetle bodyshell, the engine is moved to midships, ?tuned VW block giving 130BHP. Multiple drivers. I seen to remember Autosport (Marcus Pye?) questioning the quality of the build of them after the first meeting (Snetty?) - something to do with the firewall.
Number of cars - not a clue

The shell is that of an old shape Beetle, not the new one, and to date grids have floated between 10 and 15.

With 10 - 15 cars, questionable build quality and 3 hours to last, it sound like we may be going home early!!

How long is the circuit that the race is going to be on and how many cars will there be competing?

I ask because if you are on a long circuit with a low number of cars the gaps between laps is going to seem awful long.

Short circuit and yes the Marcus Pye comments were correct. What is strange is that this is billed as the saloon car festival and yet the Willhire is on up at Snetterton on Saturday and a lot of slightly older saloons are at Silverstone the same weekend. Anyway, hopefully the ones that are not going to those venues will come and play at Brands.

Thanks for the info Al.

I'm supposed to be there for both days but may have to forego Saturday as I have four rooms to decorate before the house goes on the market.

10-15 cars for a three hour race sounds bloody silly to me. What ninny thought of that one!

Hi Stephen.
I have an idea so that you don't miss Saturday, as I'm sure there will be a shortage of volunteers on Saturday.
I've been marshalling before and found that the decorating fairies have redecorated parts of my house in the past. I'll see if I can summon them and send them your way.

Nice idea but when you are divorcing the decorating fairy, she doesn't get too enthusiastic about work

ok, the entry lists are out.
Saturdays 3 hour zedathon looks like it might have 14 entries, but since 4 of those are all TBA as regards drivers, 12 is probably nearer the mark. Ho hum - 1 hour of practice and 3 hours of racing - maybe I should do some decorating (for myself - not he who moderates). At least paint dries to a good finish.
but the real cringer for the weekend could be the 2 20 lappers for saloons on Sunday, so far 7 entries. Any possible enlightenment from the local boy in the RS200?

Still, I'll be there. Might even have someone with me who'd like to marshal. What do you think he'll make of this quality meeting? Or should I keep him on hold until BTCC weekend after?

I marshalled the uniroyal challenge at Snetterton a few months ago and it was 4 hours long, not many cars and it did get a little boring. I was meant to be there on Saturday but I am feeling a little under the weather so will only be making an apperance on Sunday, look forward to seeing a few of you there.

I plan to be there both days. This will either turn out to be a fantastic mixed meeting or a load of At this stage, not sure which - but the Uniroyal Challenge sure looks like a snoozathon. Pity about the Karts on Sunday (so, as usual when Karts are around I for one will not be Observing).

See ya all there for breakfast.

After a lot of badgering the club has reviewed its entry fee for the BRSCC 50,now 50kms not miles i.e.2x15 laps. Entry is now up to fifteen with more likely. Unfortunately a few feathers have been ruffled on another matter which would have helped gain a few more entries but there you go. Seems the drivers don't really need to get involved...after all who's meeting is it anyway. If you want to know more see you on Sunday.

I'm going to give it a miss and get on with the decorating as I can't stand the thought of being bored to death for hours yet again. Apart from which I am at Brands for two days over the Bank Holiday weekend for the TOCA meeting.

Thanks for a bit of positive news Rod, shame about you not having an RS200. I thought the BRSCC probably had it wrong on the entry list.... I always liked Fords attempt at the Group B specials.
Escort or Honda then?

Stephen, enjoy the decorating, I got the bit I needed to do out the way last night, see you at TOCA (work permitting)
At least you won't be baking in the forecast 32degrees.

Just think yourselves lucky - If it had been at Donington they would probably have timetabled the 3 hour race to start at 18:00 not 15:00...
