Who runs the grading scheme now?

Just a quick question, who actually runs the grading scheme now?

I am no longer a member of the BMMC but want to maintain my grades. As I am currently joining BARC I was wondering if they qualify for registration with the MSA marshalling scheme?

Please excuse my ignorance but I have long since given-up believing in the grading scheme as too many people (many at Speed events) have been upgraded without actually being able to perform the duties required.

That being said, my wife is looking at working in the pits and going for a Specialist grade and we also need some form of "license" to gain entry to Oulton etc.

So how do we get an MSA license?

many thanks.

Crazystu,
Speak to the marshals secratery of the club you are joining, as you are joining BARC phone Thruxton and speak to them. They will sort both of your grading and MSA registration cards out. I presume this will be your nominated club to handle your grading.
Hope this helps,
Rich S.

I understood it to be that if you are staying the same grade then you don't need to join any club.
The MSA attendance enables you to keep your grade..

I too would be interested as I don't plan on joining any club this year

As I understand it the MSA doesn't deal with individuals other than issuing an annual registration & record card - the 'licence'.

Marshals' records are held by a club, nominated as the primary club on the licence, & all grading matters are dealt with by the club's grading officer. Any changes of address, primary club, etc., are notified to the MSA via the club.

My interpretation of all this is that it is necessary to be a member of a club, or clubs; which one is not that important. In your case, crazystu, BARC wil be OK.

On the subject of entry to Oulton, anybody who wants to marshal but hasn't got an MSA licence can get tickets from the organising club.

Ok guys just humour me for a minute..
As I understood it you used to have to rejoin the BMRMC as it was then in order to retain your grade..
Is that no longer the case..
What do I have to do to retain my grade??
It is a speed grade as opposed to a circuit grade..Does this make any difference..
God this is too bloody confusing.
Would be easier to rejoin,if it was worth rejoining that is..
But I suppose thats a different thread alltogether...

I don't believe that you actually need to be a member of any club any more, I think that you need to nominate a club that participates in the scheme (BARC, BRDC, BRSCC, 750MC, BMMC etc etc) as your primary club and they will sort it for you, helps if you do a number of meetings for that club in a year!

Call the Marshals Secretary of your chosen club and hopefully they will sort your grading for you.

I think!

Probably!

Maybe!

On the other hand I could be behaving completely within character and spouting cr*p!!!

Good point - it may well not be necessary to actually be a member of your nominated club!

Here's an extract from the MSA Officials' Yearbook 2002 (the Red Book).

Race Marshals National Register and Grading.

This scheme is administered by the MSA through its Training and Development Executive.
Early each year the MSA will supply each registered marshal with a Record Card. At the same time Clubs will be supplied with a list of their members to whom cards have been sent.
The Clubs are then responsible, through their Chief Marshal, for running the scheme, encouraging Trainees, carrying out upgradings etc., and notifying the MSA of any changes periodically, prior to fresh record cards being issued.

Has that helped?

Not really Alan, just how does one become a registered marshal after having not been registered for a couple of years?

What defines a registered marshal?
Does the nominated club have to have a marshal's club?
