Also - 1987 was the year that Crutch Cam was introduced.
In the all-female car of course <g> |

When one of the WTCC M3's were getting rebuilt (either the Ravaglia/Pirro or Stermitz/Meuviesson one), the TAFE guys asked Peter Flohr is they wanted the car rebuilt as it had come to Australia, or rebuilt to the rules.....
Of course after getting the Eggenberger Fords disqualified from Bathurst '87, what car does he oversee in 1988, a Ford Sierra. Two guesses who wouldn't have offered any help in development Last edited by racer69; 27 Aug 2003 at 07:55. |

Tomas Mezera got the Bathurst drive on the strength of the parts he was able to source out of Ford UK RS Main dealers, like a body shell, bare engines, suspension etc etc that nobody would sell to Frank or Tony...
The very car sits unloved and very dusty in the Bathurst Motor Museum |

And this was off the back of the top 6 BMW M3's getting chucked out of the results at Monza earlier in the year for carbon fibre panels, lightweight bodyshells etc etc allowing the ex-HDT Rothmans Commodore of Moff & Harves to win the first round of the WTCC.

Frank Gardner won several British and European Touring Car Championships/Series in the 60s, as well as a host of sports car races. He raced the Porsche 917 first at the Nurburgring and reconned that it was the worst car he ever drove. Porsche did a lot of redesigning on it and it became one of the great racing cars on the 20th century. He also worked with Sir Jack Brabham, and I believe he almost got the second drive with Brabham in 1966 and 67, but because of several things, Jack gave the drive to Denny. There is a new book about Jack Brabham's life due to be published in December. I recon it will be a good read, and there will be lots revealled.

I mainly remember Frank in the Bob Jane Torana Sports Sedan that later went to the World of tyres man Ian Diffen, and then the awesome Corvair, that car was a beast, upset a few of the Sport Sedan guys, but it looked the part , of cource gricey would later take the car over, and it would go from its John Player Colours over to Craven Mild.

I got Frank's book "Drive to survice" when I was a kid, read it ove and over, it's still on my bookshelf now.
Frank was a guest speaker at a club meeting a couple of years ago, best speaker we've ever had and we've had a few, big names too. |
