He SHOULD be fast out of the box if he has been flouting the testing regulations in the manner hinted at in other sections of the forum. This could be a difficult matter for the organisers...

What's wrong with "try-before-you-buy"?

:tongue in cheek:

Some people reckon he's been testing one of Docking's cars in Australia for the last few weeks. British F3 has a testing ban, Jan 1st to mid-Feb.

autosport says he has, but if the car is not to britf3 spec then its not against the rules, more like dodgeing them!

Apparently John Martin (and Walter Grubmuller, who'll be racing for Hitech) have only done the official tests and races for the Australian F3 championship. Given there are some differences between the series; such as Kumho tyres in Australia and Avons in Britain, the case can be argued that they have not broken any rules, for as far as I'm aware there are no restrictions on British F3 drivers contesting other competitions.

The mystery continues! Grubmuller's in the clear as there is no restriction on other competition, and the car he raced in the Aussie F3 opener would've been an F304 Dallara (ie National Class spec for British F3). Similar story with Bruno Senna competing at Adelaide last year.

With Martin, it maybe depends on whether he's been driving a National Class car or a Championship car. But if it was a car that Docking transported to Australia after Macau, that makes it a Championship car, and ineligible for Aussie F3 (which only goes up to 2004) - which may explain why he wasn't racing at Eastern Creek.

Did your copy of Autosport say all that? I must have seen a different issue.
