National and International Single Seater Costs

I don't really know the budgets that drivers have to pay for single seater formulas these days.

So I was wondering how much budget is required for these series i.e. AutoGP, FR BARC, FIA F3, British F3, F4 etc.

Star Mazda I believe is around $375,000, GP2 is around the €1.5mil mark. It's frankly ridiculous. Even British Formula Ford is over £50k.

There is no definitive answer, as the equation contains too many variables and what is included by each team, even within a championship varies.

A major proportion of the costs for each series is the cost of travel, transport & accommodation while the team is attending events & tests, remembering that when supporting a top level event, like F1, actually adds to the costs.

All I know is that if you are even considering your son or daughter's career going as far as GP2 it would almost certainly be more cost efficient to either start your own team or buy somebody elses.

The costs are out of control.

That is before you know how much it costs to setup a team and LEARN managing it. Except if you're a 3 times world champion, in all likely hood things might be a bit more complicating than opening a new store or something, at the end of the day you want to be the very best, not just surviving.

Why don't FIA control the costs of ladder series?

They're certainly trying with F4. I think they're now trying to do something about it.

Just pay the mechanics less money. And make trucks/premises cheaper. Oh wait...

Why pay them anything at all? Marshalls do not get paid so why should you?

Why not make mechanics and engineers pay themselves for the privilege of working on the cars?
We solved all the problems in racing

Indeed.

Let's scrap wages/salaries for all jobs. We can barter goods like sheep and water. Then motorsport talent will rise to the top like it did in Ancient Eygpt*

*Salaries and wages were paid to SOME people then (not the slaves, other than food/water), so it's a poor example I know.

One issue is that driving talent do not seem to be of any value in junior formulae.

But if you look at the relative performances of Alonso/Massa and Vettel/Webber, then you will understand that driving ability is important and valuable.

Maybe the FIA should consider grants to successful young drivers to help them move up the ladder, now that FIA's got money from the new Concorde agreement.
