The only Peugeot S2000 I've heard anything about is the 207 Rally car (and that's already taken part in competitive action).

What is your source? Autosport Mag? Online? Someone that's designing the car?

There's already 407 and 307 S2000 touring cars

I think there are (or has been) four kind of Peugeot S2000 cars: 3-door 307, 5-door 307, 307cc, 406 coupe and 407.

The Peugeot Sport Engineering Denmark team contested selected rounds of the European Touring Car Championship (ETCC) in 2004 with a S2000 307 GTi which they were racing all season in the 2004 DTC. In 2005 the team contested selected rounds of the WTCC and Danish championship with a 407 model (as well as running 307s in the 2005 DTC). In addition, a private team (IPS Motorsport) contested full seasons of the Swedish Touring Car Championship in 2005 and 2006 with a 407.
Private teams will race the 407 model in the 2007 Swedish and Danish championships, and several 307 models will also appear in the Danish championship. Sadly, there are no plans for the 407 to appear in the WTCC in 2007. Hopefully IPS Motorsport will enter the Swedish WTCC round.
The S2000 407 race car was originally developed jointly between Peugeot Sport France and Peugeot Sport Engineering Denmark. The former Danish factory team was sold in late 2006 to senior team personnel (and renamed Scandi Motorsport), but will continue to develop the 407 in 2007 and beyond, and have a direct relationship with Peugeot Sport in France. Technical support to teams racing the 307 race cars is still available. Scandi Motorsport's race plans are, as far as I can tell, unclear for 2007.

Something tells me this is happening. I believe I have heard it twice form two different sources, but I wasn't paying attention!

My first bit of info was that they were going to build for WTCC this year but put it back untill after Le Mans. My second bit of info is that design and build is now happening.

This isn't rumour control or something I have made up just for a post, I believe this is happening although I'm not 100% about it - so I gues it is a rumour!!!

I will try and dig out more info...

Would be great if Peugeot returns to WTCC (or BTCC) but to be honost I don't believe it (at least not in the near future). They focus on Le Mans and S2000 rally (Peugeot Spain and privateers/local Peugeot importers).

surely peugeot will be a works WTCC soon? i mean in 06, there were 4 or 5 privateer entries in Peugeot and they have the 306cc championship in france so it must be a mater of time. we'll see where they go after the 907 project

The whole thing sound very unlikely since Peugeot decided to pull all support from TC not too long ago.

that's a shame but things may change depending on the success of the 907 in le mans and could lead to development in other areas

Well they now have some parts developed for the rally project that could be reused. Incidentally the rally 207 is not a works entry but a customer car so it would not be surprising to have a wtcc 207/308/whatever developed for customers.

What was it about Peugeot?

The 405 wasn't that competitive in BTCC, neither than the 406 saloon, 406 Coupe or the various 307's.

A Peugeot thing? or the teams that ran them?

Was champion around 1997 or 1998 I believe. Also, I think it was widely regarded the Peugeot was homologated aerodynamically for the faster tracks of Europe, rather than the slower, twister British tracks. I think Vauxhall had the same trouble with the Vectra.

It wouldn't cost them much - the Ford S2000 rally engine was based on the still born ford WTCC project

Wasn't there some kind of problem between the French and UK Peugeot team over exchange of data?- I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that the British 406s were developed with little or no input from France.

Vauxhall at one point definitely suffered from the Vectra using the German-developed aero kit which didn't suit British circuits

I guess instead of compromises, sometimes the designers end up favouring one championship at the expense of another.

Yeah, I recall reading that while Peugeot Sport UK/France were supposedly partners, UK often got ignored and dealt with last by suppliers and designers. They often solved problems, but only later discovered that France had already overcame the same probs earlier which wasted UK's resources.

I left my copy of Autosport at work, but I think I saw an ad for a S2000 Peugeot 407 in today's issue. Asking price was €150k or so.

I have it here in the swedish Bilsport as well actually, the white/blue/orange one. '06 chassis, ran in STCC and DTC. This one doesn't have the price though.
