IIRC they didn't until recently as their only track was undergoing major updates, that turned out to take a bit longer than planned (not too sure about the last part, my Spanish skills are somewhat limited.)

They are just restarting their national championship and that's the demonstrator car... wouldn't really need camouflage, but everybody else seems to do that as well, cf. BMW's current M6 GT3 show car...

I suspect not a lot in motorsport terms but there is a lot of co-operation on the road car side judging by the current Nissan and Renault road car lineups in this part of the world.

Yet Porsche and Audi are sister companies...

Anyway... it's like the same article keeps reappearing every half years, them saying they want to be in LMP1 or maybe not and LMP2 is great or maybe not or perhaps we'll do that or maybe not...

I just want them to run actual Alpine, not some ancient Courage-Oreca and claim it to be their own. Step up Alpine please, whatever you decide to do. Otherwise, just let it be Signatech doing their own thing.

I highly doubt Alpine will race alongside Nissan in P1, that kind of luxury is something only a few companies can afford, VAG being on of them.

But then again, this program wouldn't kick off before 2017/2018 the earliest and who seriously believes Nissan will still be around after the 2016 season?

They're also using differing powerplants enabling them to research/improve two different technologies. That alone causes the decision for one company to enter two brands make a disturbing amount of sense.

Nissan has plenty of cash. Their market cap is near $50 billion and just made a $1.24 billion profit last quarter. The two companies help eachother but do their own thing.

Well, if only racing enables improving technology, then makes you really wonder what on earth VAG does with the 10+ billions that it pours into R&D annually. For marketing reasons, this approach of course makes perfect sense and from the beginning it was clearly this is the only way it was going to happen for as long as Porsche doesn't offer diesel 911s.

Well a render isn't subject to thousand of hours of CFD analysis and scale model wind tunnel work, so it should look very smooth and even a bit primitive compared to what we see on the track.

These same smooth surfaces and well-rounded contours would make it look more realistic if it were animated in a CGI feature, so it's not a surprise that it looks like it came straight out of Pixar either.
