Driver of the Day - Brands Hatch

Whos your driver of the day for round 1 of the BTCC at Brands Hatch?

Any other options required, let me know.

Quite frankly, it can only be James Thompson.

Definitely James Thompson two wins and a 6th place, pipped by Shedden though on the last lap for 5th.

What more can you ask a driver to do when you say help us win the manufacturers championship.

James Thompson was a marvel today, but I'm afraid I shall have to buck the trend and opt for Colin Turkington.

If he continues at this level of performance he may cause Vauxhall to regret letting him leave so early.

Has to be Thommo, Seat UK's unofficial team leader.

Like the others, I have to say Thommo. Class act all weekend.

Although Collard get's the 'most inappropriate excuse' award for "I don't know whether something broke on Mat's car". Nearly peed myself laughing at that one. Yeah - everything broke on it just as it hit the barrier!

Yep, definitely Thommo. He seems to be competitive in anything he jumps into these days.

James 2 wins and a 6th . Pity he's only doing 6 rounds.

I thought Tom Harvey said Thommo is only doing 5 rounds?

If he will keep up this performance, i'm sure he will do more though.

Alfa Fan has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!

He won't. WTCC commitments mean he can't.

The first clashing round is Thruxton (round 4) vs Oschersleben (WTCC round 5). If he's in an absolutely advantageous position over Plato in the BTCC, and say a further back one in the WTCC (say Muller, Rydell doing fine on their own) - I'd expect to see them put Turner (or maybe even Plato?) in the WTCC car instead.

That's probably the only if though. He won't stay in the BTCC just to win races or to back up Jason.

I think Thommo's great too... but this time I thought the Turk did great in the MG ! Who expected that thing to be where it was this weekend... and he's come away second in the points.

Shootin' now for a fairytale weekend in Mondello. Go-wan-ya-boyo

I don't know if it was simply Tim Harvey's humour but he'd say Plato would jump at the chance of being in the WTCC - Harvey says Plato's preferred place to be - but of course Thompson would need the money to change his plans.

It's never going to happen though. If only Seat could hire Doctor Who's tardis!

I think there's also a reason why it's Thompson driving in the BTCC for Seat, when they have an equally experienced guy who could also do it in the WTCC, who may not want to drive with Plato

Saying that - Muller just saying on TTT that he was offered the Seat UK drive, but said no...wouldn't go into detail why?
