Same basic platform as the Outback (of which both my wife and I have as daily drivers). Very fine cars for the money. Only problem is that in the US you have to get the 2.5L instead of the 3.0L if you want a standard transmission.
I'm glad you're having a good time. |

Twas a grea car but the x not the xt version. Its very capable in the woods and nice on the motorway and an absolute dream around town, though it does have a nast bit of switch gear just by your right knee so every time you go over a bump (lots of them in kentish forests) I eith swithched on the cruise control or the folg lights/headlap washers.

Some friend's of mine have had a gas conversion done on their Forester (non turbo) which help offset the thirst a bit. They do go offroading in it quite a bit too and reckon it's the perfect all round vehicle.
Tristan, where were you working at Cruft's? I was there exhibiting 2 day's (never saw Phillipa though..) |

Am surprised that somebody is finding that the Forester is thirsty as we have an Outback 2.5 which is very economical, generally getting better than 10 litres per 100 km round town and down in the 8's on the open road.

I have drivenn one from work and think if I was going to buy a soft roader that would be the one.
But, I'm not. I like the lazy grunt of a large capacity motor as I do most of my time on the highway. |

Have since heard of two other reports of thirsty Foresters (so we can't attribute your's to being "frantically yelped")
Wierd - our Outback, which weighs more and has a larger motor gets great economy (?) Beats me Batman |

Forresters are thirsty in my experience but I drive a Scooby Sport normally so it is always worse than that.

its the permanent four wheel drive I think not really needed on the road, though it is very capable off it
