Fiestas...
Since I passed my test I have been falling in love with my wee Fiesta, but it needs alloys, badly! It's a 92 K reg, and was wondering whats the biggest set of wheels I could fit on it?
Cheers |

17s will go on at a real squeeze but wheel arches will probably have to be modified, and might also have to take out wheel arch liners and you still might get some rubbing on full lock etc.
16s should go on fine, Id go with 16s. I have a 94 XR2i, but its only got the standard 14inch alloys :\ |

I saw some alloys advertised, 15", with new tyres, £170 for them. Reasonable? Considering it's on 13" steel rims, I would be better to keep in mind ride height with larger wheels, though with 15" it'd only be 1" higher than normal. I suppose I could lower it...

Don't forget to tell your insurers! If you don't and you need to make a claim they will take one look at the alloys and refuse to pay out on the grounds that you have not informed them of a 'modification'.

Don't forget that rolling radius is dependent not only on rim diameter but on tyre profile. You may well be able to go up an inch or even two on rim size &, by fitting lower profile tyres, keep the rolling diameter pretty much the same. Too big a change in rolling diameter & your gearing & speedo accuracy will be affected.
You should also ensure that any wheels you fit have the same offset as the originals - incorrect offset will affect the handling. Now, a word on aesthetics. Modern alloy wheels tend to have very narrow spokes, leaving everything behind them visible. To me, nothing looks more ridiculous than expensive alloy wheels backed up by wimpy little brake discs &, even worse, drums at the rear....... |

the thing about larger alloys is that they should be (and usually are) fitted with much lower profile tyres, so the overall size of the wheel is roughly the same or not much bigger. i wouldnt really worry about that issue.
umm my standard 14inch alloy cost £70+vat from Ford so £170 for a set of 15s sounds good if they are in pretty good condition. |

ok heres one with 17's - looks very nice IMO.
those are TSW Venoms, bit dated now. I have to agree about the brakes though, not very nice if they display small rusty disks/drums. They could be painted with caliper paint though which makes a big difference (maybe a bit boyracer-ish though ) Last edited by woodyracing; 10 Nov 2002 at 21:48. |

They are sound cars, I have had two - 1 my first car was an A-reg MkII and I lernt to drive in that car and it only ever let me down once. I am currently kicking around in J reg on (only for 3 more day - a new Rover 25 comes on Wednesday) and again it is great little car, I have had it 3 months and done 5,000 miles in it and it has not let me downn once.

Nice car, terrible alloys. They just about look too big on a Fiesta. I would only go for 5 spoke or the multi-spoke alloys(about 17 spokes), they're the nicest.
Bluebottle - wise words, my family has had very bad experiences with insurance companies... |

I've seen a couple of Fiestas that have had 19" rims fitted!!!! They'd had a hell of alot of arch work done though!

It does look very odd indeed, but the wheels do draw your eyes away from the totaly out of place chrome racing mirror!
