The temperature needle on the dash is a bit out. It's at almost half way when I start it up which I'm pretty sure can't be right. On a hot day it'll go to the very edge of the red zone, which I'm hoping isn't too bad considering how out it is to start with.

As for the rest of the car, it's still going fine. Haven't had a drama with it.

Most cars i know sit between 1/4 and 1/2, so its not far off.

Hopefully theres a warning light or something if it does overheat

Value your 1st car with that in mind and good luck.

Totally agree. Get something that won't break your heart when it gets dinged. Because it will happen. Good luck.

Whatever you buy don't buy an "odball" car that you can't get cheap spares for.

Hey Chatters!

The only advice I can give you, don't buy the first series of a new model like I did in Australia (Ford Falcon EA wagon). Those first of a new series still seem to have small problems, but with a low budget its something you don't want.

My dad has bought a first series Opel Vectra MkII (Holden there) and it was a piece of s... lots of small parts broke down, like a mechanic in Adelaide told me, 'its like opening a can of maggots'

Buy something Japanese, make sure the technology is simple so that you or maybe someone who knows a bit about cars can do a lot of the small bits when they brake down.

Let us know on your progress!

Well, here's a good one

But that's also because the Dutch government lowers the taxes for it because it's low emission so it's 1000 euro cheaper than it would normaly cost.

G'day WapFlap,

To save you looking back through this thread, about a month and a half ago I bought a Holden Apollo for $2500. It's a re-badged version of a 1990 Toyota Camry so spare parts shouldn't be hard to come across. So far I've only had to flush the cooling system and replace the wiper blades, so I'm very happy with it.

Thanks for your interest though!
