Pook's announcements...

I heard Chris Pook yesterday announcing that Gentilozzi is fielding a team for next year. Outstanding! All Trans-Am fans know what a great benefit this guy is going to be! Do you think that is all for Pook's announcements this race? Hopefully there will be another one today. He's probably saving the best ones for the banquet though.

According to Seventhgear, whom I assume have somebody in the media centre at the race. There's supposed to be a press conference at 11:45 local time today where a sponsor may be announced, and another one at 1:30pm with Derek Walker and young Mexican driver Roberto Gonzalez who was doing some laps in one of Walker's cars after the warm up today.

In many ways I think I'll just shutoff the news and read about who's where before the race the first race of 2003.

A couple of more team announcements were "rumoured" to be on tap for today, at the Fontana race. Personally I have quit believing any of these announcemsnts and like Jay I will wait and see.

OK, the first announcement did happen. Rahal and Jourdain announced that Gigante and Home Depot have reupped for a few more years.

Also, just to show that people might be overreacting over the lack of announcements at this point in time, this is what Jourdain had to say:

“I think for the first time in my life, I will start an off-season knowing I will have a ride next year. It will make for a good vacation and a good Christmas! Plus, it will allow me to focus on getting prepared for next year. This year has just been the best year of my life. I’m very happy to be continuing on with Gigante, Home Depot, and of course, Team Rahal. They have just been the best and to continue on with them makes it easy for me to sleep at night.”

One thing they will be announcing is that CART has attracted more spectators this year than in any other. And the previous attendance record was set in a 20-race season. That's something sponsors cannot overlook, and it's certainly something to cheer about!

Also just made official, Walker will have two cars next year, one of them filled by Mexico's Roberto Gonzalez.

Looking at the pre-race show on TSN now, should be a good one!

In a press conference over the weekend in Mexico.....

CHRIS POOK: The State Fair Board in Milwaukee did vote on approval for a night race, if we want to run one there. Obviously we're looking at it. I don't think we've made any bones about the fact that Cleveland, on the 4th of July weekend, we'd love to run a night race there. There's challenges to it. Chris Kneifel needs to look at both these racetracks, the lighting systems. We'll work with Musco Lighting, the number one event lighting company in the world. We'll work with them. Chris will take a look and have a discussion with them as to the standards of lighting. The television folks will look at it. We'll make a decision. Stay tuned. Thank you for the question.

Honestly, we won't know until they all take the grid in Monterrey.

Give or take a car or two, I'd say roughly 20.

Just listening to the commentary, Moreno sounds pretty confident that he'll be in the series again next year.

One of those is a dead cert.

Moreno is going to be at Herdez; he spilled the beans on the radio broadcast.

Should we have a pool and see how many cars we think will be on the first starting grid?

haha...nah, we'll have 18...maybe 20...maybe more, who cares right now.

It'll be interesting watching them fall into place though.

No news about the drivers that you can take to the bank. They are all Europeans though, the names that I have heard.
