Considering Paul Newman will be there, it makes me wonder if the announcement involves something from McDonald's.

Current time here in Melbourne is Friday 12:10pm, so I guess I'll know in 20 mins . Or I could call Auckland and find out the details now.

Big buzz around that it may be as series sponsor. Think maybe things are getting a bit ahead of itself. I'm keen to find out what it is in the end, it may just be Official Fast Food, which is still a good association and a show of more confidence to others considering coming onboard.

I'll bet your right. At the Fan Forum in Denver John Lopes said that there would be a major announcement regarding a title sponsor for the series. He said he wasn't at liberty to announce prematurly but he wasn't restricted from saying the words "fast food".

That little tidbit had slipped my mind. Of course he also said that an announcment of the final TBA race would come within a week. We're still waiting.

If it is McDonalds, maybe they'll give out free Big Macs at the races

As they say in the commericals...

Excuse me, but...

Hasn't the series been "co-title sponsored" by Ford and Bridgestone???

"Bridgestone presents.....powered by Ford"?????

It'll be McDonalds....there's no mystery here.....

Although it is a subtle difference Bridgestone has been a "presenting" sponsor as opposed to a "title" sponsor. Usually the differential is on of monetary support level. Ford would not necessarily be considered either a title or presenting sponsor but has obviously negotiated a mention.

I can hear it now..."Bridgestone presents the McDonald's Champ Car World Series power by Ford" Reality is that I don't care what they call it, a title sponsor announcement would be great news.

Mark C. has posted that McDonald's will be something like the "official fast food" of OWRS, not a title sponsor.

The Bridgestone and Ford deals are NOT big cash deals. CART's annual report came out a couple of days ago and their "deals" totaled only $2.5 million in cash. In Bridgestone's case, the teams didn't even get any free tires out of it. In Ford's case, Cosworth was getting $1.5 million in at-track support, so it was probably a wash, except for the additional TV ads....which well could've been incorporated into the $2.5 million.

Who knows how much of Paul's salad dressing is in this deal as a tradeoff?

Maybe McDonald's will start putting tickets to Champ Car events in the happy meals!!! That would make me happy.
