why is this scary for F1?
it would be great to have them, but they're not needed. F1 has a good mix of manufacturers and privateers as it is.

I just mean its scary that Manufactures can clearley and confidently evidence that you get more relevant, bigger and faster stats for alot less money whilst being greener to boot.

I could have sworn Audi and Peugeot were spending upwards of 100 mil a year?

"There's a very good reason why we are not in F1," he said. "There's no relevance to the road. At Le Mans, one of our cars will cover 325 miles more than an F1 car will cover in an entire season, our average speed including pitstops will be 20mph higher than an F1 car and we will use 42% less fuel.

Hmmm, the pinnacle is looking less and less pinnacle-like...

Needs some investigating but i dont think there spending more than the top F1 teams. I would doubt it but honestly i dont know the facts.

They say that because that is the marketing decision they have made and they have invested in. Moving to F1 would be an extremely expensive exercise, with lots of already established, tough competition that would not necessarily bring good results (see BMW and toyota). Le Mans also allows them to market diesels (and has been biased towards these engines over the last few years, which I beleive was to attract these manufacturers).

I like Le Mans, but there are only two competitive manufacturers involved.

If they were in F1, then they would talk about how it is the pinnacle of engineering (I remember the head of Holden Special Vehicles talking about how Ford Performance Vehicles were confusing their customers by producing a non-v8 product..... until HSV started selling the VXR).

For manufacturers, motorsport is advertising and not a whole lot more. They are hardly going to talk about how Renault are more advanced because they are competing in F1 are they?

Found a BBC article from last year, which has the following perspective from Audi:
Quote:
To put things into perspective, in recent years the cost of running a mid-grid team in Formula 1 has been more than $200m. "For a budget like that," says Dr Ullrich, "I could do touring cars, Le Mans and the American Le Mans Series for several years."

Which of F1's teams are truly manufacturers teams in 2011?

I'll tell you now that two of those manufacturers (Mercedes and Renault) are just a hairs breadth from thinking the same way that Dr Ullrich is thinking.

We haven't had a VAG F1 story for a few weeks I suppose.

As with every other time this is bought, VAG distance themselves from F1. But does the world get the hint?

The SpeCTator should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
And the other reason is when they are kicking around at the back of the grid the damage to the brand is greater than any enhancement they get from Le Mans!

Teams go to F1 for publicity purposes. That's why we have 3 car manufacturers in 12 teams, inclunding 2 teams that make and sell energy drinks, the furthest way you could be from the automobile business. If Audi is only interest on motorsport for development reasons and not for visibility, then they shouldn't have any interest in F1, which have 10 times (or more) more visibility than any other motorsport event.

P38 in workshop has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
What he didn't mention is that it might be a bit harder to do well in F1 as there are several competitive teams already there. With the exception of Peugeot,no other team in sportscars has more than a small fraction of the resources of Audi in both financial and technical terms. Thus success is not too hard to come by.Why do we not have a Lamborghini team trying to steal Ferrari's thunder?I think the statement from the good Dr contains the truth, but not all of the truth.
