The top ten in points plus anyone else within 400 points of the leader will be eligible.

The points will be re-set with the championship leader on 5050, the second placed driver on 5045, third place on 5040, etc.

There was mention of the fact that Kyle Petty of all people would have been the champion in 1992 under this years points system.

Top 10 in points as requested and those in immediate contention (-151 points from top 10)
Chase for the Championship eligible:
1. #48 Jimmie Johnson 2720

5. #17 Matt Kenseth 2321
6. #18 Bobby Labonte 2278
7. #38 Elliott Sadler 2252
8. #29 Kevin Harvick 2229
9. #97 Kurt Busch 2211
10. #12 Ryan Newman 2173

Mathematical Probabilities outside top 10

12. #88 Dale Jarrett -90
13. #42 Jamie McMurray -105

You can't really re-write history by applying this new system back to previous years.

It will change the approach people take the final ten races.

That's true they will race differently but it's still fun. I mean Kyle Petty?!!
Plus look at Kenseth, he would have had a season like that with all those top tens and finished 6th!!

The way things are going it's not looking like the within 400 points is going to matter, it'll just be the top 10. After all, only Jnr and Gordon are inside the 400 mark!

True, look at last year. Kenseth had a final 860 point lead over the 10th place car of T. Labonte. The 400 point thing was a safety net I believe.
