Tim Lee Davey.

He won formula ford star of tomorrow championship and ten it all fell apart. raced f3 with brundle and senna. i may be biased but he was a good driver.

Hey, I know Tim Lee Davey. He raced F3 in 1982 and 1983, I believe, in a Ralt-Toyota.
I'm sure I saw him race but I can't remember if this was at Zandvoort or someplace else.

I think the best driver never to race in Formula One was Argentinian Jean-Manuel Bordeu, a protege of Fangio who was very succesful in Formula Junior. He got his chance at the French GP of 1961 in a Lotus-Climax for UDT Laystall Racing.
He didn't start the race but I can't remember why. All I know is his car was raced by Lucien Bianchi that day.
There were some teams interested in him but a testing accident at Goodwood ended his F1 career.

Russell Ingall, won 1993 British Formula Ford Championship but got nothing after that, and Mike Thackwell didn't get a proper go at F1 either.

DNQ should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Nice topic. Jordi Gene (brother of Mark) deserved a crack at F1, so did Craig Lowndes, the Aussie V8 Supercar driver. Gonzalo Rodriguez proved to be quite talented, and as racer69 pointed out, Mike Thackwell deserved better, but of course he did make it to F1 for the small RAM team in the mid-1980's.

Of course, I could just list all the best NASCAR/CART drivers who haven't raced in F1, but that's not the point, is it?

True, but I think Paul Tracy should go for it. At best, he'd be World Champion. At worst, he'd at least give TGF a run for his money in the avoidable accident standings.

Well I think a great driver who did not get the job as a regular F1 driver was Junqueira. He did test for williams, but he desrved the seat, he had way more skills than Bottom(jenson). Well I think he got to F1 at the end, he drove an F1 car but he just could not shine.

Acctually a Norwegian!

The Norwegian Race driver Tommy Rustad Deserved a Formula one seat.
he won the STCC last year (same as BTCC but it`s swedish), he won in the Nissan Primera.
He almost made it.. but because of the money he did`nt..
but i can say one thing.... He`s GOOD!!

Yup, Martin Sretton gets my vote too. Anyone who has seen him in the six wheel Tyrrel will understand why. He's just awesome.

Marc Hynes. He beat both Burti and Button in the 1999 British F3 Championship.

Brack does not deserve an F1 seat. I agree that Jordi Gene should have got an F1 seat.

no i disagree about marc hynes! i don't feel he won that championship with talent - i think he had a superior car and then when was given the chance in f3000 didn't do much with it. He has also had a test in a BAR f1 which came to nothing ......so he can't b all that great!

Even Cranky Franky's enemies said he would have made it...

But I think Tomlinson would have been better, and David McKay says Barrett was the best ever... but he never saw Tomlinson and I don't think he studied history.

Barrett did to a 5:40 lap at Lobethal, and I think Tomlinson got down to around the neat six minutes... that's pretty fantastic stuff. Barrett, of course, did 3 mins at Bathurst in a 1932 racing car, too.

Just so you can see a bit of what I am talking about, here's a little bit of Lobethal:

And this is Barrett at play...

Obviously he had a quicker car than Tomlinson...

Franky, though, was from a different era...

Another Shane Cowham drawing...
