Kind of funny in a way, that one of the former British colonies now owns 2 of the most famous British companies.

The only truth so far in this thread is that Tata have indeed won the bidding process to buy Jaguar and Landrover.
The ideas that all manufacturing will move to India, or that anyone is "21 billion" (21 billion what?) in debt are both nonsense. |

Not sure of dates, but Tata's offer has been accepted. Guess they're down to due diligence and agreeing details.

Surely one of the major reasons for Tata's interest is to gain access to the British based engineers and designers at LR and Jaguar to assist with the development of western style shopping cars that could be built cheaply in India and exported.

Far cheaper ways to achieve this.
There are a number of leading automotive design consultancies in the UK who already consult to most major global brands. However, since Tata purchased Incat International plc, a British design and strategy business, it already has globalised skills. In any case, Tata have already expanded their global presence with facilities in Detroit and Korea. |

Tata
I know the Tata family. They planned to build 500 Mercedes Benz cars under license in their factory in India/ the plan was to build a luxury car there to avoid the punitive import duties. The cars took quite some time to build with the longest delay caused by them achieving the paint specs laid down by the Mercedes QC dept. Eventually the cars were built and were as good as anything built in the Fatherland. Due to import barriers being relaxed and Mercededs changing the body shapes among other things, the plan to build the cars was put on hold. BMW though have built a factory. So to suggest that the technology of the Jaguar and Land Rover is being given to India is not the case. Tata employ around 250,000 people worlwide and are diverse in their portfolio. Although India based the Tatas have origins in what was Persia with some Swiss mixed in. A very honourable company.
