pink69 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Porsche 911 GT1 98

How could Porsche retire the beautiful 911 GT1 98 after only 1 year? It won Le Mans [ 1 and 2 ] and also faired well against the mighty CLK [ despite some / alot of rough treatment] They never gave the car which celebrated porsches 50th Le mans race with a victory the chance to defend its well won crown!

It was a pretty shape, that GT1, but the colour scheme was an absolute pig to get right in 1/43rd scale...

One of the road cars was on display at Le Mans, in all- over white, much easier for 43'rd scale!!
(Yes I know I've missed the point....)

Funny you should mention it pink69, Peter Brock touches upon Porshe's decisions in his latest colum at Speedvision, which is mainly about the bmw v porsche homologation controversy

The Porsche 911 GT1-98 was good for long races (Le Mans 24hrs), but was bad in short events (FIA GT Championship). Porsche did not win a single round of the championship, the CLK-GTR and the CLK-LM, both beat the 911 GT1-98 by miles. My view is Toyota, why build a car for 1 race?????????

Remember suzuka 1998? McNish passed the number 2 CLK at one point , when they came to the cross over , the Benz punted him off and out of the race! So Merc weren't miles ahead! On Toyota , I don't think there were many places to race GT1 cars in 1999 or 1998 in Japan. In 99 the FIA was privateer and GT2 and below only so they probably had limited options. Of course there was the CLR , which also never raced more than once [ not even once theortically]
